They should just cut the bullshit, and do a Mario and Donkey Kong team-up game. They could make it either co-op, or RE0-style "zapping system", where you swap between Mario and DK on the fly to get through/around obstacles. Mario would be for acrobatics/burning things/etc, and DK would be for smashing things/throwing things/etc.

Just give it some basic narrative excuse where King K Rool and Bowser team up to steal bananas and stars from their respective realms or something. I'm on sub level 500 and so far every level has been built entirely with punching through dirt and rock in mind. There are some gimmicks here and there but yes the challenge suffers from this concept.

The game has challenge rooms similar to Sunshine and Odyssey that you go into and even they are remarkably easy. If it isn't a challenge of go in there and spam Y to punch the shit out of enemies it's go in there and do the obvious thing to beat the enemies. THOUGH some of the challenge rooms do require a tiny bit of thinking, likely with children in mind so you won't find it very difficult.
