Really have to wonder why they threw that in there. It was completely out of character. I didn't mind how she reacted to events because that part of her nature was part of her character and super natural ability. I also really appreciated having a cast of characters who took things seriously and didn't turn everything into gotcha's and quips.

I played them back to back earlier this year, and the SH2 remake is leagues better. The βcombatβ in Alan Wake 2 is somehow worse than the first one, the story is a lot of meandering bullshit that ultimately goes nowhere, the dialogue is atrocious, and as nice as the game is to look at sometimes, there is no real way you interact with the environment. That isnβt to say that SH2 is without fault, but I found it to be the more enjoyable experience.
Special mention to the fact that Silent Hill 2 actually bothers to have interesting puzzles that arenβt the dumb nursery rhyme filler bullshit or checking the environment for glowing symbols to put into a combination lock for the 80th time.

the loss of static camera angles and the loss of of the tone setting that brings in some environments alone makes the sh2 remake no where near comparable
it's a better game mechanically and visually, sure, but that's to be expected and nothing to praise considering current tech - it's par for the course. what it brings outside of that isnt worth speaking about
well, that isnt entirely true, expanding on the town in the opening section and letting you explore around was a very nice inclusion. other than that though the pacing is worse, the atmosphere is worse, there is ironically far less attention to detail in the effects in the environment and in cutscenes (no moths following your light, utterly BUTCHERING the eleen fire sequence)
it's the same shit as every remake, it looks better visually and has smoother gameplay, but utterly botches the attention to detail, atmosphere, symbolism, and art design.
that being said, AW2 alan parts > SH2 remake > saga parts in AW2

While I mostly agree with you in terms of atmosphere, it is more noticeable with sh2 than re2 remake. Also, I didn't play the originals growing up, so I'm more lenient when it comes to that stuff, but I do agree the original is visually more memorable and less bland, but damn is re2 remake is so fun to play, and it is still tense to play despite multiple playthroughs. You're at least half right there, but what actually happened was that Alan essentially traded himself for Alice at the end of AW1 and imprisoned himself in the Dark Place in order to free Alice, and afterwards he continued writing to try and write the perfect story to let himself break out and return to his dimension
Alan Wake 2 expanded on that story and continued it, meaning we'll probably have to wait for AW3 for a proper "ending"

I should clarify on behalf of the other anon, but they're wrong. Alan breaks free of the narrative at the end of Alan Wake 2 in terms of being trapped by the Dark Place, but maybe not the overarching narrative. A big topic about Alan Wake 2 is the fact that his writing is rewriting reality, and it's expanding outwards. It's a topic brought up in Alan Wake 1, expanded upon in Control, and then further expanded with Alan Wake 2 where Saga Anderson's daughter is both potentially alive and dead depending on if the story goes on. The problem is, we never establish which is the real world and what is his writing - similarly to how nobody knows if Thomas Zane was a filmmaker or a poet. Alan might be a creation of Thomas Zane, thus explaining his parautalitarian status with the FBC. We also don't really know if Casey is real or not. The more you look into the story and the world, the more interesting it gets.

I played aw2 twice
its mostly noteworthy for its cinematic direction, like the environments are sometime awe inspiring. Its the most cohesive visual look I've seen in a game and its worth experiencing for that alone, on a 5090 with path tracing. Good cast of characters.
The gameplay is a bit like witcher 3, it fits the fantasy but you dont go into it for the sake of shooting some more of the respawning enemies but since its paced so well it doesnt get tedious.
SH 2 RM had worse combat due to worse pacing. The enemies get tedious and its a bit like grinding through chopping a forest of trees to get to the berries. Meanwhile the visuals : fog
People complaining about somehow who looks like saga anderson being in a game are angry about something else and pretend the game did something wrong when all the individual aspects of it make perfect sense.

That's what happens when you blackwash a character to appeal to consultants but don't distort the rest of the game around it. Gaps in logic begin to appear, which wouldn't exist where she the original.
Of course a blue eyes blonde american woman with Norse ancestry wouldn't be surprised at her Norse ancestry.

You're halfway done 2 years post release? Guess you're very busy with work.
Saga talks about her swedish mother plenty before anything supernatural happens. Saga reacts believably most of the time which is mixed in with her experiencing supernatural occurences that annoy her.
I can run it maxed, just not at good enough fps for it to feel good. Aw2 has some extremely high latency for path tracing which cp77 doesnt have. Thankfully most of the environments are baked in and have a set time of day so the experience is fine without rt.

I swear to god if this game toned down on the meme joke jumpscares and improved the impact of shooting things to pre AW2 levels the game would be top tier, the combat was worse than the last two entries

Try as you might, you'll never drag me down to your level, bitch ass bugman. Release AW2 was so bad it couldn't even run properly on 4090 systems, suffered from tons of memory leaks and gaytracing problems, and it's still fucking fucked in many areas if it doesn't run on am SSD.

AW2 has some amazing design choices that they don't follow up well.
Like if you go to the mind world when the game starts teasing the big brutes, even the mind world is shaken and thundering. You get there, he bursts through shit.
Then you get to the actual fight and the guy is barely an inch taller than the regular dudes.

Remedy's new engine is all kinds of fucked. I bet they couldn't get the rigging down correctly for an actual huge enemy.
Control on controller is piss easy while you get fucked with mkb on the same difficulty. AW2 is piss easy with mkb while it's a literal chore to play with console despite the easy ui

Reminds me when I saw the gameplay footage where saga shoots at people in cabin and the carnival place. All the npcs slowly lumber towards her giving the gamepad players the required time it takes to aim with their terrible control scheme.
Gamepads dont fucking work for videogames if you need to aim a weapon.

I liked both but both had huge issues. AW2 had a mostly nonsensical plot. SH2 at least you're able to follow. AW2 had better gameplay. SH2 puzzles were too complicated and the game was confusing at points.
