Like, it's just a fundamentally more gay character now, and the game was definitely made by the Splatoon devs moreso than remnants of the Odyssey production team. A lot of the designs seem more Splatoon-adjacent than Odyssey-relayed, especially the bosses.

Before all this fake internet drama I had no idea so many people tied their own masculinity into a cartoon gorilla.

I think the brow change was necessary, it does make him more expressive, HOWEVER, the eyes did not need to change at all and were better bigger/more separated
