From a purely gameplay standpoint it was fine It had some unique weapons. a few movement gimmicks, minor tweaks to the formula but nothing to really make it stand out against any of the other hero shooters.
It was an easy punching bag, but none of the punching actually hurt the game. if anything the nonstop shitposting was the only thing that kept people slightly invested in it.

Concord was competing with fornite, roblox, counterstrike and other games and there's nothing going for it to make people want to play it. Time is limited and people are already entrenched into the games of their choice. They tried to do an Overwatch where they have a cool cinematic trailer that makes you go HOLY SHIT I WANT TO SEE MORE OF THESE CHARACTERS and EVERYONE that saw it noped out. People really get into the lore and world building of games like league and even overwatch despite not having pve or story modes, and there is usually an audience for it in those communities. Giving lore content to characters can help make them more attractive to players too.

It's trying to be Overwatch but here's the thing, no-one likes hero shooters anymore, they are trite, boring, and frankly not very fun to play. You are more likely to get irrationally angry and feel like shit playing these forced, overly-tuned, sensitive metaslave games that ranks you in arbitrary matchmaking than have fun; all so you can be kept on a treadmill which wants to sell you lootboxes, and probably battle passes.
DOUBTLESS they had plans for a huge league tournament and they shamelessly though this wet noodle shartfart of a bland IP would be their big huge money wagon Marvel Studios moment and it's extremely, extremely off-putting. That's the thing, they were only going to sell skins after launch for a set price to upkeep the servers, the game had everything else available for free just by leveling up each individual character. There were no lootboxes and I don't think there was even a battle pass. They advertised the game on this which is why they argued it was a good deal for $40.
