>>715958150Oh, I'm completely sympathetic. The runners are grand, I just don't like the game.
Dogwater is crazy by most marathon standards since normally people either finish all their runs in one block, or get a few days breather between runs. These guys are almost going nonstop passing the baton back and forth. I respect them more, actually, with that in mind
Favorite runs from each event this month? Below are in no order.

There is no such thing as perfection but ESA has by far the best balance between fun, event is big but not full corpo, still maintains a familiar vibe to it, is gay but not off putingly gay or obnoxious, it has extreme legends like the French accent guy or our lads Rebel Dragon and Tiny Tim

>>715958324ESA >= ASM > Dogwater > Power Gap > Bathroom breaks > GDQ
ESA had a great game palette, but it lacked big moments aside from the Playstation Nation runs. ASM had a bit of cringe that it kept into manageable chunks while also having the most open fun, be it long runs or Werster runs. Dogwater bants are still top notch but the runs aren't as good and they're having stamina woes. GDQ is just the worst it's ever been and maybe the worst it will ever be. But who gives a shit about that when the rest has been so nice?
We're not done, though, you fags better be back for RTA and BSG

>>715955550>On the outside, ESA is still fine, but all the talent agency / Tiltify / commitment to fundraising as primary goal is surely alienating a few people, even without the additional drama that went down.More so than that, with the mismanagment issues being pasted over instead of resolved, they basically plan to burn through entire teams of staff every few events, and have a lot of stupid ideas like using AI for schedule shit. Eventually they'll run down their list of potential volunteers, a list that they think is infinite.
>>715962536Used to, not so much now.
>>715962557Never thought I'd see a speedrunning event go through the enshittification pipeline but here we are.
Been taking their time with the final run. Inb4 they are trying to wake up Peter, who is still sobering up.
>>715962557Yeah, I heard that several times by now. However, ASM and especially Dogwater show that most people don't care about event size, good production, competitive runs or professional tech. As long as an event is entertaining, a lot of fuckups will be forgiven, so it is not that difficult to organize an alternative.
I am skeptical about BSG/UKSG as ESA alternatives, though, these events appear to me like they will go down the GDQ path as soon as they become bigger.

>a lot of fuckups will be forgivenTrue with ESA, or possibly forgotten less than forgiven, they did some surface level stuff and even placated a lot of anons.
>I am skeptical about BSG/UKSG as ESA alternatives, though, these events appear to me like they will go down the GDQ path as soon as they become bigger.I don't think BSG/NSG/UKSG will ever see the rapid expansion that caused GDQ to spin out of control with the corporate event shit, or that ESA got a fleeting taste of and has been desperate for more of ever since.
That said I don't think any of the other Euro marathons really need to replace ESA, they've got their own vibes and ways of doing stuff that set them apart, and I think that's fine.
>>715963468>these events appear to me like they will go down the GDQ path as soon as they become bigger.Would they? Riek is in charge and reads these threads, so he knows the pitfalls. And they have ESA as a warning what can happen. Keep forgetting who is in charge of UKSG, but think a big part of their staff and runners also had a pretty big fallout with ESA. So both should know what not to do thanks to ESA.
People keep forgetting with ESA the issue is with Edenal and Planks both being mentally ill and doing a ton of wrong things simultaneously to enshittify ESA

>>715963975>they did some surface level stuff and even placated a lot of anons.Ah sorry, I should have clarified: I didn't mean the drama, I meant people are much more willing to forgive things like poor stream quality, trainwreck / over estimate runs and things like this, as long as the event feels like there's fun allowed.
>I don't think BSG/NSG/UKSG will ever see the rapid expansion that caused GDQ to spin out of control with the corporate event shitSame, there's too many alternatives already, and there is only so much attention/money around. So, whichever event will come out as the leading one (if any) will hopefully have experienced organic growth.
>>715964091I hope you are right, however when I tuned in to these events, they felt like they were, given their small size, somewhat routine, tame. Not sure whether I can explain that correctly, it's not that I need people to slur/curse on stream all the time. They looked clean and professional, people were doing good work, no doubt about it. I can't even say what exactly was missing, but I can tell that ASM for example had it. Call it energy or something. Maybe I just lack the faith that people like Huds or Skenmy, who may be decent lads, but were mostly boring at ESA, can make a great event out of UKSG. I will certainly tune in to BSG in August, maybe they prove me wrong, I am a firm believer in Riekelt supremacy after all. In fact I'd love it if they do.
>>715965303I'm willing to watch RTA despite the language barrier, but with Funnruns there's also the species barrier to deal with

I'm sure there's room for improvement like getting sat on a run that's just waiting, but it's impressive how it's not taken a lot to make it interesting.
you DO have the tee eye double-guh err pass, right anon?
>>715972309>I'm sure there's room for improvement lThey should have the cams of the runners on screen instead of those avatars. Not sure why they did it this way, but I don't like it, it's detrimental to the atmosphere of all the lads playing together for the final run.
>>715972531is it fucking up every time they switch?
as fun as this is to watch, i only know 2/7 games on there so I don't really know what the hell is going on when the focus is on the other games
>>715972615With the camera issues they've had the last few days, it's understandable that they're not doing that.
>>715972619Sometimes, it's probably not a completely automated system to swap them.
>>715972615The bitrate is already bad enough on some of these streams since they're streaming their game feed through Discord to whoever is the host who is streaming it to Youtube and Twitch, I think the webcams would make it worse, I'd rather they fix the sound mixing so I could actually hear some of the guys
Really that was my main issue with this Dogwater, even getting runs dropped was whatever but the tech stuff was pretty bad this year
will they meet the donation goal?

>>715972768>>715972901Yeah it's understandable, but it's still bad. I have no idea who runs what, there's not even a small text somewhere. Yes, I suck at recognizing voices.

So, overall thoughts on ASM this year?
I thought there was a lot of comfy runs, though nothing amazing and mindblowing. At least when I was awake. It was all really good stuff to semi-watch and mostly listen to while I do other things. The banter was also really good and they know how to keep your attention for a long run. It was quite fun having the graveyard shift on at prime time for me because I like the graveyard shift runs of these events but I started to feel eh on it when it meant all I got to see was the long JRPGs mostly and all the short runs were when I was asleep. Still, I liked the event overall.

Plus a lot of people thought it was perma dead for so reason so they didn't seek the event out.

The event is all about speedruns!... despite pre-2020s ESAs still had gimmick runs that did help fix scheduling issues and keep it communal.
He can't even admit he fucked up, he keeps hiding behind the "everyone stepped up to help!" and put out a painfully safe ESA before trying again to roll out his terrible management ideas.
Even shit like
>>715978201 >>715978338 is literal astroturfing about
>w-well he gets kudos for stepping up in spite of the drama (that he caused, tripled downed, and has the gall to memoryhole it by removing dissenters)Hope you get what you want from constantly rotating out staff so no one knows your real face Edenal and Planks. God knows you're going to do everything to avoid getting caught again.
>skillful runsAt least 23 overestimates and 6 failed runs from a similar set of bottom of the barrel runners that GDQ is pulling from is skillful.
Surely you can list seven runs you genuinely thought were skillful.
You can't. Everything regarded highly were for factors beyond the run itslf sans Katamari and CTR, both delegated to stream 2 and get the boost of being "sovlful" and lax.
Lmao GDQ staff do lurk here
>>715979585What did they say? I'm not tuned to their stream
>>715979361I think the problem is that we have 7 different runners all (obviously) focusing on their runs, whereas normally we'd have one guy running + couch to occasionally explain things in between all the shit-talking.
It's a fun idea but it's pretty quiet because everyone is in the zone, which then makes it hard to follow because someone on a side screen is probably gonna find an item that's important for some other game or something.
The OoT fishing music is pure, undiluted nostalgia.
>ERM YOURE GDQ STAFF BECAUSE YOURE AGAINST ME
GDQ is beyond rotten to the core to care. Matty is irredeemably twisted beyond caring. I'll commend them for being honest in them committing to nepotism grooming from hosts into their circle a la Rubie and Melo. Edenal too much of a schizophrenic snake to commit to promoting people up the ranks now.
>>715979361I find it weird when people do Archipelago streams without showing the text client or a tracker. There's plenty of games where you can barely tell what you got while playing them or just say 'you got an archipelago item' and you have to look at the logs to know more
>>715979716Was taking the piss at the post above the one you replied to, its funny how people are watching Dogwater and some dude randomly posts his schizobabble
>anor londo archers claim yet another victim
i agree
>>715973243 is very schizophrenic famalam
would someone please donate $200
it'll be too depressing if they don't meet the goal
>>715979997At least it's not the weird one who fixated on Dogwater for a bit.
>>715980276They've got 6 hours bro
>>715976607>Plus a lot of people thought it was perma dead for so reason so they didn't seek the event outThat's what I thought and missed it
>>715980423At least, Pete's running after all.
does this need another thread?
>>715980276we just need everyone in this thread to donate $50
>Dark Souls but it's the Garden of Assemblage
>>715980887Sure why not, Dog Water is still going for another 5 hours at least
Do we have a schedule of other events?
>>715980887Estimate's eight hours and we've only just hit three, so we probably do.
One of you made that dono for sure
>>715981017>>715980958ok I'll bake one less time
>Do we have a schedule of other events?I'll post it in the new thread
>>715981064I don't know what you could possibly be talking about.
>>715981160It's Goofy time!
>>715981064Well yeah, we're the only ones donating
