I'm surprised I ended up liking most of the cast, Emmerich's quest was kino with the best level in the game. Draven wasn't just a token nigger but had actual internal conflict and struggles and ended up being a bro, Harding was lowkey cute.
Bellara was the biggest surprise, she starts out cringe and annoying but it turns out it's mostly a facade and she has alot more depth than meets the eye, it's almost like she was written by two different people. Veilguard had none of that. The gameplay was a complete departure from Dragon Age (No controlling party members, etc), they retconned almost all pre-established lore concerning the elven gods and the darkspawn, even retconning the dreadwolf lore from just the previous entry in the series.

Mom is obviously trying to come to terms with what her kid is telling her (in a verbal ambush), with the Qun clearly having some concept of cross gendered individuals in a heavily gendered society, and the kid is just standoffish and trying to pick a fight. It was pretty transparent the way major outlets posted glowing early reviews, only to backtrack and criticize the game once the money was paid.

I played it (I pirated it) and it just bored the life out of me, and yes the shitty dialogue also killed my motivation to go on. I liked DA:I, and I know a lot of /v/ doesn't like it but I did, I liked the tactical combat and didn't think the writing was too bad so was willing to look past all the stuff I personally didn't like but I didn't feel anything positive towards Veilgaurd at all. I liked DA2 as well for reference, so I was their target audience.

Some people have posited that EA values the brand name too much, or that they're too cheap to take the risk of buying a new RPG developer, but BioWare's spent the last decade violently devaluing itself, and the success of other CRPGs proves it's not a matter of unfavorable market conditions - other companies are making successful games in the same genre. Hell, EA took Battlefield away from DICE for the 2042 debacle and gave it to Respawn, but they still let BioWare waste their money. Even the Mass Effect remaster's success proving there's still value in the brand can't explain this level of lenience.
