Sure it can.
If you are obsessed with one game and ONLY one game played the exact same way with no change in experiences... shouldn't a sane person look for more?
Some games inspire people to find new ways to keep enjoying them, but to experience the exact same thing again and again like rewatching a movie, as a kid no less...
It is very applicable.

no, a speedrunner is still looking to change something.
they are looking to beat someone, to beat the world, even, at doing something.
they are trying to improve themselves and/or how they play the game.

this guy is just obsessed with a set, static experience.
makes me think of how andre the giant got obsessed with the movie "the princess bride" that he got to act in.
he couldn't get over it, (or more likely, how happy he was during filming it) and would ask people if they saw how good it was, or something to that effect.

Guiness was kind of salty that at the end of his career and in his twlight years people mostly only remembered him for being a silly space wizard and not for, say, his roles in The Bridge on the River Kwai and other David Lean films, or Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. And to be fair, most classically trained actors of the era would've felt the same.

Contrast this with Cushing:

>"My criterion for accepting a role isn't based on what I would like to do. I try to consider what the audience would like to see me do. I thought kids would adore Star Wars, since they love all things about outer space."
>"I was absolutely knocked for six, I was riveted. Star Wars was a picture you had to see again, to take in so much you missed the first time. Even the beginning was incredible, with that tablet of words receding like a pyramid into time. My only disappointment was that poor old Tarkin was blown up at the end, which meant I couldn't appear in the sequels."
>Mark Hamill was disappointed when he realized he had no scenes with Cushing, being a fan of his, so he visited the set on a day off to meet him and ask for an autograph. Hamill asked questions about Cushing's past acting career, specifically what it was like working with the comedy duo Laurel and Hardy in the 1940 film A Chump at Oxford. Cushing was surprised that he had even heard of the film. Lucas found Cushing highly pleasant to work with, leading the director to continue using British actors who could play larger-than-life villains in his films

There's healthy interest and obsession, like anything else. Some fans of Star Wars grew up to be inspired by it and went into things like special effects or writing or whatever. Then some people just obsess over Star Wars thinking that being a paypig of all the media gives their life purpose, and do nothing but collect shit and wallow in their childhood.

Are there actually any real examples? It seems like all of the crap that the majority of listless fanciful normie fucks refer to when trying to liken some real world shit to their favorite fantasy, it's always a movie or book or TV show.
Video games don't really have the same kind of broad "this cultural/political/social event is just like when voldymort said expelmyanus!" warped perception of the world that a not-insignificant percentage of the population unhealthily immerses itself in. There will always be fringe groups and autists and redditors that will do so, but in the context of a wider population latching on to a big property, a game being brought up is in limited capacity (usually game mechanics) and not trying to frame their world view in a "this is just what Mario would do".

You're right that some speedrunners can do it in a healthy way, but others straight up are wasting their lives. It's not fun for them, they're not making any money, and they spend hundreds of hours trying to shave off a second from their last run. That Goldeneye streamer who had a mental breakdown and called everyone in the community including himself degenerates was right.

When the Street Fighter movie first came out, I remember reviewers lamenting that some tripe for kids was Raul Julia's final movie.
These days not only is the movie considered far better than the original reviews, but "For me it was a Tuesday" is an all-time classic line.

By Aldus Huxley, George Orwell, and Winston Churchill it was written that communism was in part about extending people's youth and juvenile stage to cover one's entire life. Too prevent the formation of true adults.
The fact that so many people echo the same sentiment is probably evidence of something real.

It would be like if a beetle was trapped eternally in the juvenile stage and never reached the adult stage of its life. Or any other creature. It is just such a coincidence that this outcome was reached, not through communism, but consumerism.
