I think a lot of people already disliked him because he's basically reddit personified, and the voice, and talking about shit he doesn't understand. But he had a very large and very loyal fanbase so there's no way to really cut through.

When the WoW shit happened, it was BAD. For two reasons really.

1. Normal people could see he was full of shit. With the more recent stuff about his lack of coding ability, you kind of have to understand that shit to get it, and there's no appetite for the average person to try to understand unless it's exciting- which it becomes when a lot of people are talking about it, but not if you're a smaller channel trying to get people's attention on it.

But with WoW he'd been talking big about exactly the fucking situation he was in. He was saying how good he was on Mage and how Mages save teams and how he even has these specific builds so he can be the hero when things go wrong.
