i'm like 10 hours in and it's fine but kinda disappointing. combat is good but even on the hardest difficulty is getting way too easy since you can just dodge/parry everything. conceptually the story and worldbuilding is incredible but the dialogue is really awkward (and not in a fun campy jrpg way, more like it's trying to be 'realistic') and the plot isn't really going anywhere other than one interesting scene with mael

I don't know if it tries to be realistic but I think it managed to be, at least in main scenes. Like when characters talk over each other and stuff.
The director is a cinema nerd so there isn't that much dialogues and a lot being told with eyes or characters expressions also.

i feel like so far the cutscenes are stuck in a weird uncanny valley where they're trying to be realistic with the mocap and attempts at natural sounding conversations, but whoever's writing just isn't quite good enough with the dialogue so there's still some awkwardness that stands out even more when it's trying so hard to be cinematic/realistic

Problem is that every game aside from Death Stranding and Deadeye deepfake are so offensively bad that Ex33 is automatically game of the year.
With 10th of crew (even counting QA control and team doggo) and tenth of cutscene time they created a decent game that while using mechanics that were used in other games makes something original with them and story that people still argue about.

I played it and loved it, fantastic game. Fun to play, great music, great story, and absolutely beautiful. My only complaint is that the difficulty is all over the place towards the very end of the game, either you just stomp the enemies or they stomp you. I still never beat some of the superbosses because they're just nuts, but it's still cool that they're an option if you want to do that. I think the hardest one I killed was that titan thing in the water.

i liked the very start of the game but after gustave dies and the gameplay solves itself before the end of act 1 it falls off. i tried it day 1 because i thought it would be a good fake jrpg but after i one shot the final boss it really soured me on what i thought was already a mediocre game retroactively.
