The first half of Crysis is actually kino. It's ar the midpoint and end where the maps become more linear and you get less freedom gameplay wise. The beginning fighting the norks though, pure ludokino

Utter shit. One of the most dissapointing downgrades in the history of games. Spam saying it's impressive has downgraded everywhere it was upon.

Worthless piece of shit. Should have been banned for being inspid and insufficient. Bad design. And not even hold sights.

Better looking games are overlooked because cowards spewing this shit are satisfied. Call it their section. Something. It degraded games. I think the degenerates even tried to force 800x600 as a minimum resolution.

At least in a way we got Far Cry 2 out of this cancer. Could have been better too, but was good enough.

The game mostly consists of open arenas with entrenched enemies that you have to fight or sneak past to get into their base to press a button, where you almost always have the element of surprise. Those open sections are tied together with linear encounters.
Your gimmick is that you have enhanced strength, mobility, armor, and stealth, but you can only pick one at a time. It's actually really fun, very immersive, and well paced.
The game peaked for me when, after you broke into a base and a big plot point happens, you have to break out of the base and sneak past a ton of patrols and checkpoints all looking for you, at dusk and transitioning to night. They really nailed the "you are deep behind enemy lines, but the cavalry is coming" vibe. The cavalry actually arriving is a huge payoff, for me anyway. The last 1/3 or 1/4 of the game basically throws all that out and turns into Halo 2, but it's still cool.
My biggest gripe is the cloak ability. It makes the game too easy. Vehicles were clearly an afterthought and half baked, but also totally optional. You can walk through the whole game if you want (except toward the end). The writing is overall pretty good, the story is pretty generic though.
Worth pirating the original PC version and not the dogshit remaster.

Agreed, but I wasn't that impressed with the tank section. I usually just saw the tank as a liability to get shot at, and your NPC companions are useless. It's much easier to just get out and fight with the rocket launcher so that's what I did.

It's terrible. It's fun larping as the predator for like 10 minutes. Everyone says the game goes to shit as soon as the aliens show up and they're not exaggerating. It becomes linear garbage with nothing that made the first half interesting.

When it came out, it was during the earliest stages of applications moving towards multi-threading. Crysis ran like shit at the time because it only used one core. After updates, Crysis could be run fairly well by things that once struggled with it.

Nah. 2008 is quite late for 1024x768, 1280x1024 was the typical resolution of the day, used on a lot of common 5:4 LCD monitors which you could find all over the place before the widescreen transition. If anything I'm pretty sure I remember that around that time there was a lot of buzz and excitement around affordable 1680x1050 16:10 monitors, 1024x768 was definitely in the rearview mirror.

Non meme answer, but the gist of IT is that 2 years later, Cod:MW2 happened, achieved record sales for Its time, suits took notice that videogames can make money, especially movie-like video games.
And movie-games ride on visuals. Which is what suits believe to this day. Which is why the studios put graphics at the forefront. Because that's what shareholders like and can "theoretically" woo the average consumer

Star Citizen counts as the technology game currently, also happens to be running on some modified cryengine. How people feel about the state of said game is a different matter and there's reason to doubt it may not reach it's goals for what the game is supposedly going to be.

Vehicle sections were considered a good way to change up the gameplay, you don't even need to use the tank however, you can just go solo with the suit and scavenge anti-tank weaponry by killing Korean mooks stationed around
