Absolute pain and suffering. No one wanted to play with you so you were stuck autistically playing break the targets in melee, and if a friend did get stuck coming over for a sleepover or something they'd be annoyed by how impossible it was to keep up with you. Pretty great actually. Spent countless hours with friends playing melee and nightfire. Games ran at 60 fps and looked better then PS2. Exclusives were fantastic and groundbreaking. To this day it's one of the best systems ever released and could be bought for one hundred bucks back then which made it the most affordable as well.

The droughts weren't as bad as the Wii U era, but they were noticeable for folks that didn't really enjoy the Mario Party games (ie, me and plenty others). 2005 was actually a decent year but it died that fall/winter.

It was fun. I'm feeling nostalgic....

I remember my launch game was Rogue Squadron 2. That was also the first 6th gen game I played. I'm not sure why but it's such a vivid memory playing it in Kmart while my mom was like "are you done time to go we need to get going" and I was all "nuh yeh wuddeh heh".

Super Monkey Ball was another early pickup. Not sure why. I can't imagine seeing a ball rolling game and saying "aw hell yeah" but it became like a "family game". Even my mom would play it from time to time and my sister and I loved the mini games.

Double Dash and Smash Bros you know. Console essentials. Played those heavily. I remember at the end of Double Dash to finish the game you had to do every race in a row. I expected Mario Kart World to have something similar due to its obsession with connecting tracks into long races and then it just... didn't?

But Resident Evil was the big dog for me on this console. Remember I was Nintendo only before this. Blind rented the Resident Evil Remake at Blockbuster. Not knowing it was a remake or what Resident Evil even is and I just got obsessed with this game. I was doing a run every day. Invisible enemy hard, real survival, knife only, etc. Then Resident Evil 4 came out (never ever Gaystation Poo) and became another eternal top 10.

Had to get PN03 because Resident Evil guy made it. Always thought that game was treated a little unfairly, I like it. Had to get Killer 7 because Resident Evil guy was connected to it. Unlike anything I had seen up until that point. Blew my basedtendie brain apart. Still a big favorite.

Playing Gauntlet Dark Legacy, that's a good one.

But yeah it was good time.

I loved mine. I was in middle school or late elementary at the time so a lot of kids were trying to be big boy grown ups by clowning on it but anyone really into games was having a lot of fun on it. It was the best gaming generation of all time, OP. Even the lows of GC (and all the consoles that weren't dreamcast for that matter) were pretty fucking good. I got my PS2 late in that gen but I pretty much played both side by side. What I really love about the GC though was the GBA player, I fucked so hard with that. Getting to play all my GBA games at home too on the TV was awesome. I still also consider the GCC to be one of the greatest controllers ever made in terms of ergonomics. Hard to say what my highest playtime game was. Probably Melee, but Animal Crossing and my multiple play throughs of Metroid Prime have to be high up there. Also spent a lot of time fucking around in barren multi-player maps for Metal Arms Glitch in the System just because the robot destruction was so good. Don't let anyone tell you that no one liked this console or it's all zoomer revisionism just because it was a financial failure. There was a lot of love for the GC and this generation in general at the time. Is it a little rose tinted? Sure. But overall there's a reason so many games from it are beloved to this day, many of them simply graduating from cult classic to widespread acclaim. Something similar that also happened to game series on the PS2 like just about any MegaTen game. Lot of rediscovery going on with 6th gen now that the zoomers are older.

DVD player got plenty of early adopters, sure. Many of these people would go on to buy multiple years of Madden, the GTA games, Tony Hawk titles, and several of the myriad racing games (when the genre wasnt practically dead like it is now). A lot of people were also super impressed by graphics in FFX and MGS2. I prefer the GCN but Sony did a ton of things right with PS2. Naughty Dog put out Jak 1 just a little over a month after GTA3 released; something the younger audience could enjoy when the system wasn't being used for that or DVD's. Just a few months later, KH came out to massive success... and later that year? Vice City. Good release schedule with something for everyone.

i was excited for it but it sucked compared to the ps2 and xbox.
sure, people can lie to you and pretend it was cool, but it wasnt. it sucked and nobody cared about it.
in fact, the gamecube game library is what pushed me into PC gaming more, so i can thank the GC for my summers playing warcraft 3 custom maps and ARC.

It was a nice secondary console, I only used it when I had friends over since I didn't own a multitap for the ps2. As a kid, having 4 ports is a game changer and avoids all the squabbling over who gets to play next. Most people had a Gamecube because it was so cheap so they'd bring over their own controller as well.
Not once did I ever play solo games on it though.

I always had every console from every generation and I didn't give a singular shit about the Pee Ass 2 while I really gravitated towards the Basedcube.
Even as a child I knew Snoy games were caca while Nintendo made nonstop bangers.
