The people actually writing the story are the 'Senior Writers', and for the vast majority of Rift Apart that was Lauren Mee and Sam Maggs. So yeah she wasn't technically the lead writer, but she was the one (of two) who was writing the story.

If an author forgets to include a detail into the story, then it's not canon. No matter what they insist later. Authors can help settle matters of *intent*, but not canon.
