It’s pretty good at improving Switch games. Portal 2 used to drop frames when looking through portals at yourself, now it’s smooth. I like Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 but it always dropped to a low frame rate when too much was on the screen. Now it’s perfect. Witcher 3 is still the worst version but now the resolution scaling sticks to the highest and the frame rate is locked to 30 everywhere. It actually looks pretty good handheld… not as good as the deck but still. I tried some stinkers too. Bloodstained still stutters when it loads new rooms but it doesn’t drop elsewhere and stays 30fps (still blurry). Outer Worlds sticks to the higher resolution of its scaling and is locked 30 with no drops. Also still blurry but not nearly as bad as original hardware and load times are quick. Lots of games load quick even off of carts

it's high efficiency nvidia cores + DLSS as the silver bullet.
everyone should be reminded that the Switch 2's power budget is typically 10 W below the Deck, and Cyberpunk on comparable settings between both machines sees the Switch 2 running either a little better or substantially better. Remember, that machine is also outputting at 1080p rather than 800p, so even just matching frames means the Switch 2 is pushing out better results by default.

Obviously the Deck wins in terms of the open ecosystem and legacy of a large steam library, but the Switch 2 is legitimately a fine machine. It can run PS4++ games on handheld at a decent framerate. You don't need more to make great Nintendo games.

yes, but people who wanted a Switch 2 were likely interested on playing them on the Switch 2 in handheld. For that matter, people like me who never played BOTW or TOTK have been getting a lot out of the Switch 2. They also added a free resolution + performance patch for Splatoon 3, which has been a blast.
It's not the best launch ever, but it was stronger than the PS5 and XSX launches for sure.

The Switch family and Nintendo handhelds in general aren't made with your use case in mind though. It's about sacrificing some home console power for portability since gaming on a daily train commute is a big part of a lot of Japanese gamers' day. Having a machine that can effectively play games during a commute, during some down time in an office, and at home is what the Switch was made for.
Given the fact that all of their handhelds sell like hotcakes, given the fact that many of their most successful series had their most iconic entries on handheld, and given that Nintendo doesn't really go in for AAA fidelity as a priority, this strategy has worked out for them.

the screen itself is fine, but the ghosting in 2D games is down to a firmware issue driving the screen. that can be fixed. but the screen's image quality is actually quite crisp. I'd consider an OLED revision if they stuffed it with a beefier battery, but sans the response rate I'm fine with the screen they packed into the ver1 release

The Switch 2 came at least two years late. Of the 100 million Switch users, at least 10 million of them were impatient for an upgrade to their hardware. They would have bought the Switch 2 even if it had been released without any games, just with the promise of being able to play some Switch 1 games with backward compatibility.
Nintendo had zero reason to release a bunch of big games, they wisely spread out the releases to feed the fan base little by little now, much like they do with their paid ROM service.
