What does /v/ think of Blasphemous? I hear a lot of people believe it's one of the high tiers of the genre while others say it's just style over substance and the gameplay is weak. Then there's the sequel; is it scat or gyatt?

I liked Blasphemous 1 a lot.

The first game was a lot rougher before it was patched, so a lot of (correct) criticism was leveled towards it. Even if at times it does lean more into style than substance, at least it does it very well. The second game offers a lot more in terms of combat approach-ability but I think the bosses suffer for it.

Blasphemous 2 is more conventional but a better game. I liked both, though I didn't pay attention to the story in either.

The only Metroidvania to rival metroidvanias.
2 is easier while 1 is a tighter experience.
Also lots os soul like even a nes styled arcade ingame.

Gameplay and controls in 2 are vastly improved. The first game's carried entirely by its presentation.

Fantastic art direction and pixel art, probably the best in the genre, but that's the only good thing I'll say about it. Music is very unmemorable though. Wish I could play in Spanish because I usually prefer playing in the original language but Spanish is such an ugly sounding language when spoken (like Chinese), I end up just playing in English so I don't feel like my ears are being assaulted. Game is way too easy. I beat every boss in 1-2 attempts. Never played the DLC or second game.

I generally don't like the sound of Spanish but I thought the voice acting was good enough to counteract that. I always liked seeing Deogracias for the voice acting alone.
