Because the game is not even like 40% finished and worst part is that the crafting is missing half of the currencies from 1. Part of the reason as I see it was it appeared like the developers were trying to make the game more skill based generally, but too many so-called "players" whined because they basically just wanna hold down a button and 1 shot everything with giant AOE effects, so they've been slowly caving to their demands (can't really blame them) which has certainly eaten into development time.

Got me its the RMT, I didn't know it had gotten so bad. I always wondered why I couldn't make my own private league with my own modified drop rates. I guess RMT being central to design was why. Honestly I just got sick and tired of 3rd worlders botting and RMTing and ruining these kind of games with vanilla wow during COVID.

Something about the way loot and currency was dropping in poe2 felt suspicious. Then the RMT sites being connected to GGG owners came out and I was already done with it as mentioned above so i just dropped it. GGG is over for me even if they clean it all up I won't even look in their direction to see it.

Making a new game that's different from the first in theory is fine. But you need to remember the core audience of the first game and what what that game so popular to begin with. You make a game that aethestically is the same as the first game but combat for the most part is slower, the rewards are less rewarding and the grind is even worse then you just make them quit or go back to the first game, which is why Poe1 is still popular. Then to further drive it down, the identity crisis part also expands to what game you're trying to take a page out of. The dodge roll emphasis, the longer time it takes to clear acts and regular enemies, the overall tone, it's clear you're going for a Soulsborne type approach. The only problem is, this isn't a Soulsborne game and if I wanted to play something like that, I'll just play an actual title of that genre.

Because PoE 2 devs did not learn anything from PoE 1's 10 years of development. They made an incomplete game with atrocious balance, no crafting, pure gambling, took worst mechanics from 1 and made them core to the game, made map and mapping a far worse chore than 1's, and added bullshit boss battles as if the game is a souls game, and on top of it they added dodge rolls, and made the game progress at snail's pace.
The only good thing they did, as they usually do, is art and visuals, as if it is a korean mmo.

Also, they launched EA, and then took a 4 week vacation immediately after, allowing for bugs/issues and such to pile up. They have a very strange approach to this stuff.

The thing is that while bossing is more intricate and interesting, basic map enemies will eventually
rape you if you don't have an extremely fast screen nuke button. The game launched with 1 death per map rules so this will push players to create 1 shot builds since defenses aren't in a great place without crazy gear. You cannot slow down the gameplay without increasing the drop rate of good items. If a game is slow and methodical then the kills must guarantee worthwhile item drops. If the game has extremely low drop rates for worthwhile items, then enemies need to be plentiful and die quickly.

PoE 2 is trying to be slow, with low droprates. It doesn't work, and people get bored quickly.

What gets me is that they will say this is unfinished and this is mostly the time to figure out what works and what doesn't but at the same time they have the mentality that this is already a finished product. Never mind the monetary stuff, since this is effectively Early Access, this is legitimately the time to encourage players to try all the wacky build ideas they can come up with and see what's fun and what's not. Instead, respeccing is extremely costly last time I played for the longest time you couldn't respec your ascendancy as per "the vision" and the whole process feels more arduous than it ought to be.

To preface, I'm a huge PoE fan who will likely play every league of both games until eternity. Regarding PoE2, I acknowledge that it's not out yet, and to the extent it is, it's not really representative of "the vision" because of terrible balancing.
I have to agree though: PoE2 is failing. I have lost faith in the vision. In order for there to be meaningful combat in PoE2 style, the monsters need to be tanky enough for that to make sense, but no one really wants to do the 123-combo on each white pack. If you argue that it's only meant for rares and bosses, well that's also the case for many builds in PoE1. Sure, in PoE1 they are mostly buff and debuff skills because you can't have multiple main skills, but the skill system in PoE2 has serious caveats too.
Now the meta is fucked and everyone uses one skill anyways, but let's imagine the vision comes to fruition so what happens? Every lightning sorc uses every lightning spell, every mace dude uses almost every mace skill, etc. In other words, every build of a given archetype is the same. In some interviews they said that once they added the max 1 each support cap, they realized that restrictions increase diversity, but I'm really surprised if they haven't realized that for the whole skill system.
I would also like to defend against the argument that PoE is mindless 1-button builds where the whole screen explodes. Yes, it's one button in a sense that you only have one main skill, but you should still use other skills too as explained above. It's also mindless in a sense that you don't have time to cognitively analyse your moment to moment gameplay decisions. However the gameplay is not trivial, and it's not easy to play well. In fact the skill cap is insane. I have several top 10 placements in SSF, but my times for lvl 100 are still around 30-70% more than the top player.
My conclusion is this: Slowing the game down didn't make it harder and more meaningful, it made it easier and more boring.

The thing is if you're going to make a game "skill-based", you have to give a commensurate sense of progression.
Which they are not, because they want to have their Soulslike cake and eat it too. In POE2 they want you to feel amazing for making your way through a randomly generated dangerous map carefully and methodically and figuring out how to fight a tough boss, but then they also expect you to do it a few hundred more times before you see any notable improvement in your gear or any movement towards the boss.

If you make an average player take ten to fifteen minutes to slog through a single map in an average build, and then you give them three exalts and five vendor trash rares for their painstaking effort, and they are effectively no closer to the ability to take on endgame bosses or even to challenge endgame bosses - well, most are just going to up and quit.
Leaving only the people you wanted the least for this kind of game design, those who were endlessly looking for that ability to trivialize maps, using PoB and blindly copying builds to do so, because that's the only way to feel any progression at all.

If they really wanted the 'every map and boss has meaning' stuff to work, they should have basically added way more unique content, made the campaign twenty times as long and essentially part of endgame where you have to fight dozens of other bosses on the same level of design as Geonor to keep progressing, and every one unlocks areas and uniques or items you have never seen. But of course they don't nearly have the manpower to do something like that so it comes off as a giant game of 'pretend our repeat filler content is real content just because it's difficult and a few areas are shuffled around'.
