It's highly subversive and the writer of this shit is a Jew who hates Christianity, backed by a studio who doesn't care about religion, operating in a country that is highly Atheistic.

There is no deeper nuance to any of those topics. His only exposure to religion is based on surface level knowledge and information of Catholicism he got off of watching modern day media, then he tries to create his own personal idea of what religion is then just tack it onto this game. Everyone crosses themselves every time and prays and shit but never actually tries to act Christian because the writer does no understand how the whole thing functions. He thinks he can basically just continue to use his made up notion of what religion is like to criticize Catholicism and the Church for his own perceived slights of it without anything else added to it. It genuinely just reads like a child's fanfic understanding of things.

Also, let's not forget the whole Jewish centric storyline of the second game. Somehow, in a Medieval setting game where Christianity is supposed to be the norm of society and focus of things, SOMEHOW the director found a way to shoehorn the whole Kabala shit into it where you're forced to help them and they play a highly relevant role to the overarching storyline of everything and they're always being portrayed as some kind of goodie two shoes you should be identifying and empathizing with, while the Christians are the bad guys who are rapists and murderers and conniving liars. How the fuck does a storyline like this even get high acclaim and isn't just immediately laughed out and seen as the schizophrenic spite filled thing it is?

No. They have invincibility like in Skyrim because they are part of the main story.
It actually goes even further than that and makes it so your button press for attacking is locked when facing them, so you can't attack when you're standing in front of them. And if you try to whiff it like, looking away, initiating attack, then swinging on them, the attack does connect but they don't even flinch nor take any damage from it because they're essential NPCs.
