Most "fun" characters get banned off the bat because retards cant/dont play them well enough to be actually good.

Pudge needs at the very least a fundamental understanding of mechanics, lane roles, and hero behavior related to their weaknesses and what they will do in the early/mid/end game, and needs a good idea on who to capitalize a gank on vs wasting an ulti on a support. He also requires a good 5 spot to be able to give him vision in both jungles.

But if you want "I can be a huge asset regardless of kills/gold" Go be a teamfight support.

One of my favorites is Phoenix as he can drastically turn the tides of a nasty initiation against your team into a losing battle for the enemy fairly easily. High mobility, high damage output over time during a teamfight as well as high healing over time during a fight for allies, huge nerf to enemy attack speed + burn, and an AoE nuke/stun that refreshes HP/MP/abilities for himself. If a Phoenix EVER gets fed and gets himself a healthy HP pool, he's incredibly difficult to pin down and kill.

They made it so his clone does half damage if the original isn't close, Valve is on a crusade against splitpushing. Same reason Naga has been unplayable as a carry for YEARS and only seen as a botched support.
All illusion and splitpush heroes are unplayable except TB because his illusions barely matter.

You have tons of options for it, and if you can't figure it out that's a (you) problem.

What funny tricks or gimmicks even exist in this game anymore? Everyone is some greybeard who is familiar with every possible strategy and way every hero can be played. Valve is dedicated to cutting down ways to play as well, so you're always walled into the bush leagues by someone who dedicates their life to being boring. There's no more 900 range Sniper or out-of-bounds Broodmother or Pudge+Wisp hooks anymore.

this. dota is a pure luck game where winning has nothing to do with your efforts. matchmaking decides the game like a slot machine, only you get the result 40 minutes later.

since you can't really get away from griefers and ruiners, dota is a game for gambling addicts. in the original dota we used to have vote kick and filtering guys that had too low of a k/d ratio. nothing like that for the modern forced 50 slop.

I actually almost never use blink on rubick. He's far too squishy to be getting involved in such situations. I will however get aether after boots and stun/zap a mf from across the map. Shard/ags are a much better investment in my retard brain than a blink. Pudge however I will rush blink after boots and chomp a dudes dick off.

Are there any videos I can watch to "catch-up" in a way? I was never super into Dota 2 and played it for about 100 hours or so about a year after Free to Play came out. I stopped watching stuff and playing after 7.00 because so much had changed.
