Be a trendsetter. The most original mechanic this game has so far is a clash system, which is inspired from Onimusha, and a mechanic where game punishes and rewards you for dying too much. It makes you do more damage but also receive more damage, befitting your reckless playstyle but once your madness bar fills up a demon spawns where you died to deliver karma and will attack everything in sight. You have to kill it to get your red mercury back.

I dropped Lies of P after I think Chapter 4 because the combat mostly was a bit boring to me since it was mostly standard Souls stuff (unless I was playing wrong, which is possible).
I was going to hold off on Wuchang for a little to see some more gameplay in case it was the same but thanks to that one guy who was uploading his playthrough way early, it looks like it has way more active abilities like I hoped.

Lies of P was very much bloodborne which imo isnt bad but going back to BB in today's age of post Elden Ring and modern soulslikes where everything is progressively becoming flashier it does feel really stale by comparison. Like many people are already finding it hard to play some soulslikes because Nightreign added more active abilities, double jumps and more developed skill kits.

I would say 7/10. The combat is the best part about it with it having phenomenal boss design but the game is way too long and overstays it's welcome for how simplistic the combat system is and how little the combat actually evolves over the course of the game and the exploration is straight up ass being basically an entirely linear game with a few lazy branches with some loot or an optional boss to give the illusion of exploration but all you're actually doing is mindlessly bumping your head against every corner until you stumble onto the one correct path. I'd say calling Wukong a 7/10 is more fair.

I thought the exploration was pretty good too. Personally, I found encountering new bosses, and especially the secret areas, way more rewarding than the usual item pickups you might typically get in other games. I feel like the main path was always fairly obvious outside of chapter 6 and maybe some parts of 4

Sure there was barely any reused content but how you engage with it never actually changes. A boss even if a new boss is still going to be beaten the same way, just bonk them to death.

I honestly don't see how so I'm not sure how to respond to that becuase that to me was the most obvious criticism. You get all your spells fairly early and the skill points do not do much if anything to actually change how combat feels.

There you see lies the problem. The game is too linear. Having a few optional areas doesn't make the game any less linear in it's actual progression. I always use Dark Souls 1 as an example of what good exploration looks like cause it honestly hasn't ever been beaten(I'm sick of Souls games being defined by combat when the combat is shit, exploration is what makes DS1 the fantastic game it is) and in DS1 you are free to explore in any way you see fit and there's no wrong answer, the game organically moves you from place to place no matter where you go. I mean even the simple fact that Wukong is structured with levels is enough to say from the genre's perspective Wukong has garbage exploration.

Well I won't harp on that since it's just a difference of opinions. I also thought Elden Ring was way too long. I'm the kind of guy who likes playing a lot of different games so I tend to prefer games not be as long so I can enjoy them and then move on to the next game.

Sure but I never really felt I actually did much different. It's probably confounded by how shallow the gear side of things is. Though as I said to me the souls like has always been about exploration, the combat is just a means to an ends, nothing more. It shouldn't be the focus in the first place.

The legacy dungeons in ER are the highlight of it but yes I think the only games From have made that have actually captured what made DS1 a good game are Bloodborne and Sekiro which are the only other 2 that actually focus on exploration. I do not like DS3 or Elden Ring all that much and consider both of them below average From Soft games. AC6 was also enjoyable more so because it didn't bother with the interconnected world at all. I should also probably say I don't actually like Souls likes as a genre that much, I like Dark Souls 1 and games that come close to it but 90% of Souls likes are bad and the ones that are good are ones like this and Nioh that intentionally try and do something different and thankfully this also seems like that.

The story is about an amnesia pirate who wakes up in a temple and finds herself growing feathers on her left arm. The taoist healer who rescued her mentions that she is suffering from the Feathering disease that results in people losing their memories and gradually becoming bird like monsters. According to the game's lore this is because the original inhabitants of the land of Shu were from a clan of avian creatures that had to regress to humanoid forms as punishment for a curse caused by their chieftain. Now something is causing modern humans to revert back to birds and it's driving everything feral and insane. The game is also set in the backdrop of the fall of the Ming dynasty, around the late 1600s, where rampant violence and chaos ravaged china as with all dynastic collapses. The game really doesn't shy away from the gory and grisly imagery too which is a first for a Chinese game who tends to censor this kind of stuff.

The story was barely there, nigga. It's not bloated, it just provides very in-depth combat for people that like that sort of thing. There's nothing to understand about Fromsoft combat, it's the most basic, barebones shit there is. Which is exactly why I think Lies of P is overrated, most other non-indie devs add to the formula to make the combat more interesting.
