the gamecube was better than the wii, other than brawl i have no clue what people bought that for. that thing was a major dissapointment.

because 6th gen has the ds though it balances it out i guess.

The graphics step up was pretty big, seeing Gears of War for the first time, that gothic city was a wow moment. But PS2 has so many fucking classics and did amazing things with the hardware. Consoles going online is a watershed moment too which marks the beginning of the end of gaming, even if we had some good times with Halo 3. PC online was never catering to retards.

Yeah you can. GameCube had soul oozing out of it-F-Zero GX, RE4 before it got pimped out everywhere, Metroid Prime redefining how to do a first-person adventure, and it didn’t waggle at you like an idiot every 10 seconds. Wii had great games sure, but most of the library was shovelware or lazy ports with motion slapped on.

Specfags will reflexively say 7>6, cuz
>muh movie immersion
started around then
But gen 6 was the last generation I feel like ststems and games were made explicitly FOR GAMERS, with the added benefit of internet being a nifty tool for extra content, and not a tool reverse engineered to trap and bleed dry consoomers (casuals AND "gamers")

This. I'm not big on handheld, but as long as it's the right team developing it, 3d can absolutely work well on handheld. I believe it's when handheld tries to be console-power big and epic, with little to no system optimization, THAT'S where problems are likely to start/ be noticed
>>716176007
Power isn't everything. The wii was what opened the floodgates, empowering normies and casuals to latch on to gaming, and stick around. ≥95% of wii's library is shovelware at best, and if you five a fuck about gameplay performance, motion controls suck dick, and are just there to draw in adhd kids and immersionfags
Gamecube started metroid prime, gave us a absolute gold standard of what a remake should be with resident evil 1, had link in a 3rd party fighter, and was the last system for f-zero until nintendo started dangling scraps in front of fans in mk8, and with it's predatory nso

I think on an objective level gen 7 had better games, but mostly by virtue of volume + variety. Gen 6 had 3 of the companies involved struggling heavily, and it was basically just ps2's great library, halo and whatever else people pretend was good on the xbox, and nintendo trying hard to recapture what they had before, to mixed success. The DS, Wii, PS3, and PSP were complete gold from start to end, and while that can be said of the PS2 as well, it is literally 4x the consoles pulling weight.
To expand on it, 7th gen was almost universally backwards compatible. Not entirely, true, but most of gen 6 was attainable, and even actively promoted, during gen 7. It isn't a fair comparison but it is true.
I totally get why people would prefer the time period of gen 6 when gaming wasn't infested with dudebros and it hadn't hit mtx or true AAA bloat, but I do believe that on an objective level, ds > gba, ps3 > ps2, 360 > og, wii > gc, plus PSP, and dc wasn't even around for long enough to make a difference, sadly. Also somehow dpads were so bad in gen 6 for some reason, and they got mostly fixed with gen 7, weird.
Bonus, indie games slowly started trickling in in gen 7, whereas beforehand you had, like, alien hominid and... I'm sure some other examples but I can't think of them off the top of my head.
Gen 7 wins it, imo.

I was a gcfag that gen, and I can tell you that although backwards compatibility was a perk, it was far from a key selling point for either
PS2 brought R&C, J&D, GoW, ffx, katanari damaci, tons of great 3rd party stuff that were multiplat for that particular generation, and more
GBA had rse/frlg, golden sun, some of the best fe, lots of great snes ports allowing portable play for the first time for them, and with the gba sp, the first rechargeable backlit handheld
Those systems were way more than just backwards compatibility. Don't get me wrong, I see no reason why backwards compatibility should ever not be available, but if that's a system's major selling point as a crutch, like currently every modern console, THAT'S when it's a problem
