>>716171145 (OP)I think on an objective level gen 7 had better games, but mostly by virtue of volume + variety. Gen 6 had 3 of the companies involved struggling heavily, and it was basically just ps2's great library, halo and whatever else people pretend was good on the xbox, and nintendo trying hard to recapture what they had before, to mixed success. The DS, Wii, PS3, and PSP were complete gold from start to end, and while that can be said of the PS2 as well, it is literally 4x the consoles pulling weight.
To expand on it, 7th gen was almost universally backwards compatible. Not entirely, true, but most of gen 6 was attainable, and even actively promoted, during gen 7. It isn't a fair comparison but it is true.
I totally get why people would prefer the time period of gen 6 when gaming wasn't infested with dudebros and it hadn't hit mtx or true AAA bloat, but I do believe that on an objective level, ds > gba, ps3 > ps2, 360 > og, wii > gc, plus PSP, and dc wasn't even around for long enough to make a difference, sadly. Also somehow dpads were so bad in gen 6 for some reason, and they got mostly fixed with gen 7, weird.
Bonus, indie games slowly started trickling in in gen 7, whereas beforehand you had, like, alien hominid and... I'm sure some other examples but I can't think of them off the top of my head.
Gen 7 wins it, imo.
