Imagine if K. Rool never came back and these guys really were the main villains of Bananza. Would they be hated as much as the Tikis and the Snowmads?

No. It's a very low bar but they show far more personality than both of the evil groups in the returns games.

I remember when donkey kong country returns first came out, Anthrit put a video on youtube "wiping my ass with donkey kong country returns". He used the actual disc of the game and showed shit on it before he mailed it to nintendo. The original video had since been deleted, and a censored version was uploaded where he said it wasn't the actual disc and there was no shit. A few years back I looked on google and searched for reuploads of the original, and was able to find them. Now google search deteriorated so much, that to even find the reupload, not the uncensored version on an obscure forum post, you need to use duckduckgo or yandex. Internet is dead. That video is how I feel about bananza though, even though it has K'rool.

It would all depend on what Void did with the Bananium Root transformation, they could have easily pulled off a Buu to Majin Buu scenario where he could turn into an actual threat, and I think this team could have pulled it off, but still glad they went with King K Rool.
Poppy and Grumpy for sure can be main stay side characters though. Grump could be the more antagonistic friend of DK and for Poppy Kong Candy could use a rival in the "Who's sexier" contest

The Snowmad bosses at least were a lot better and more memorable than the bosses from DKC1. No idea why people claim they had zero personality and presence when their intros had all kinds of charm and threat and their fights were pretty tough and had awesome themes. I like Void Co. a lot. Though I wish they were hired or funded by K. Rool or something instead of K. Rool being sealed. Void Kong has great personality and he does the awesome trope of throwing a tantrum when he realizes he’s losing and just spams while you beat him up. Grumpy Kong is chill and honest and Poppy Kong is just funny like Candy Kong. The sexy Kongs will forever be hilarious.

That's the thing, though, K. Rool started as just a generic fat angry crocodile and was derisively compared to Bowser. It was only after the second game that he developed a personality. Bowser too was just a generic giant turtle who didn't even appear in the sequel and took forever to start getting an actual personality. It's unfair to criticize Fredrik for not having a developed personality in his debut game when they were in the same boat.

Fredrick just didn't stand out. In the 90's, K rool absolutely did and it stuck. Frederick comes off as a discount K.Rool. Most of Frederick's attributes from his sailing persona to his attacks as a final boss just felt straight ripped from K.Rool.

No, but thats not as much about being a little better designed as it is this game's art direction has that splatoon brand autism that sends dopamine to the nu-tendie brain.

I'm tired of pretending that the Tikis weren't based. Anthropomorphic tropical musical instruments that hypnotized the local fauna was a great concept for DKC villains, and it was a better explanation as to why DK had to fight so many enemies in his home turf, compared to the Kremlins seemingly taking over the entire island and even building fucking factories overnight, and all the animals siding with them over the king of the jungle whose giant face makes up for 1/3 of the land.

Frankly Donkey Kong never needed a consistent villain, Kremlins were only good in DKC2 and I welcomed the new games doing something different. I fucking wish Mario could fight someone else other than Bowser for the first time since Super Mario Land 2. But retarded Smashfags just had to bandwagon over K Roll so hard that they convinced Nintendo to bring them back.

My autistic idea to connect the two was that the Snowmads were originally a peaceful conglomerate of different arctic species until K. Rool and the Kremlings (after losing Crocodile Isle, both the DKC2 AND DK64 versions) ransacked their original home island to become their new headquarters, forcing them to become more militaristic and were eventually driven out entirely as the Kremlings completely dominated their homeland, thus leading to them trying to take over islands to call their own.

So if anything my idea would have the Kongs chase down the Snowmads but eventually realize K. Rool is the real cause so by the end they form a truce to reclaim their original home from the Kremlings.

It was precipitated by seeing all the 10/10 reviews of DKB, and feeling like I'm in bizarro world, even searches of bad reviews being suppressed on google/bing/derivatives, and having to use yandex to find them. I went down the rabbit hole, and they always inevitably take you to 4chan. I thought the game was dogshit from personal experience without having read any bad reviews. No one "told" me, I just wanted to find like-minded people in a climate of dead internet theory coming to reality and eshittification of everything. I know 4chan has bots and astroturfing too, but at least there's some semblance of a discourse.

I imagine a bit around Fredrik never smiling due to his tasks being too heavy. Or him telling the Kongs to get used to the cold alluding to him conquering Kong Island after defeating K Rool. It also comes down to his supporting cast. Like make Skowl the owl boss initially work with K Rool because he knows how to stroke the old Owl's pride.
