God that has to be soul killing. Reminds me of that one video of the dude crying about never working a warehouse job and how it just slowly kills you. This is just one of those jobs I know I could never do. I'd either end up snapping and killing myself or snapping and killing someone.

I imagine overnights are fucking fantastic for work at a lot of 24/7 jobs since most people aren't bothering. Probably meth heads in my area or truckers or people passing through I-95 but not a lot of people.

I worked at walmart for like a month and there was this nice old man who had literslly been stocking shelfs at walmart for as long as they had been open in the area. I dont understand how you can have zero ambition in life and just be content with that. Last i saw him he got to old to stock so he became a greeter, but i havent seen him doing that anymore either. Rip old walmart stocker

Approaching 10 years of Home Depot overnight freight. As long as the job gets done, nobody cares how much you goof off or chill. Many nights have been spent playing games on company PCs. Paid pretty well (by retail standards) too.
Though it all really depends on the location. I just got pretty lucky. Many people say working overnight is a downside, but I was gonna end up nocturnal due to my MMORPG addictions anyway, so it doesn't phase me.

Like others have said it depends on your location and job. I did security overnight (worked all 3 shifts before) but overnight can be 50/50. They had HQ on site and would be watching us on cams. Would constantly bitch if I was on my phone literally at all, but at the same time expects us to stay up no problem from 12-7 AM. But on the flip side, I've had companies where I had the freedom to do whatever. I would walk around doing my rounds with beer/alcohol in my hand, fucking around. Half the time I wouldn't even do the rounds, I'd just go outside, walk around the block to stretch my legs and come back inside...nothing ever really happened during those times.

The idea of being some apparent sadsack old fuck, at some minimum wage talentless labor job, surrounded by coworkers younger than me due to how that bar gets easier and easier to clear... it depresses me to no end but unless something huge happens to me it's where I'm headed. I have zero ambition to make it big or climb any ladders, no career goals other than get paid doing something that doesn't innately make me want to blow my brains out. I've got a few dust old fuck coworkers like that and all they've got going for them is a family that avoids them and some female coworkers nice enough to act like they're not disgusted with they're "jokingly" getting hit on. I want more than that, man, but I've got nothing. Anyway videogames.

I mean we're supposed to be a deterrent for people actually doing shit and I get that but it's like dawg, it's 4AM, cut me some slack. I can stay up all night long, if you at least let me fuck around on my phone here and there but to be such a faggot that you radio me any time you see me on my phone is just retarded...but then they also piss their pants if you start falling asleep. I left that site so fucking fast. That company was dog shit too they had so many no call no shows, and if nobody comes to relieve you, you're expected to just stay at your post, however long it takes for them to find a replacement. At first I would stay an extra 2-3 hours but then I realized that after taxes that shit wasn't even making a difference anyway, so I just started leaving when people would no show. They would call and whine and I'd just lie and say I have to pick up my daughter, I can't stay. Some of those security jobs are chill as fuck and then some are literal cancer. Like I remember doing retail security for a supermarket, and the owner would constantly give those whole/half rotisserie baked chickens supermarkets sell if they didn't sell all of them and had some left over.

I was a night crew manager for 10 years. It's more complacency then anything else. You know what you got, you like it well enough, so why do anything else?

Night teams also tend to stay around the longest, and without much turn over. It was practically the exact same set of guys for the entire 10 years I was there. So we had a fairly good comradery going on.
