As they are right now, there's nothing that a mouse and keyboard couldn't do better. Obviously the technology is improving, but the technological development isn't focused on gaming. It's just a neat headline (even if we've already done the same thing with chimps like 20 years ago).

BCIs and neural implants are the future, but they won't get here soon. Anyone who says they are probably also think that commercial fusion power and AGI are coming soon.

That's a very important aspect of it from Gabe's point of view. All those invalids aren't buying games because they can't play them!

the lora (like info on a style or concept) can tell a model how to make an image or video, like ghibli style, or a spinning object, or whatever.

it can do it cause the lora is trained with rotating objects or content like that, so the model knows how to do it. same with ghibli stuff, it's trained on the films so it can replicate the style.

They are creepy, the software will probably be invasive, they might be expensive, they will potentially be dangerous, and some/many people will dogmatically reject them as it's unnatural.
Smart phones are only like 15-20 years old now and look at how much it's messed people up, even addicts realize they're kind of a shitty deal. Brain chips would probably be 100000x worse than smart phones too. Like it's great for curing blindness and other diseases or injuries, it will be fucking amazing for creating art, but past that it's a slippery slope to "turn ecstacy: ON" pleasure cube type situations. Or digital hacker jews turning on the depression setting.

Not necessarily wrong, but there are caveats.
LLM nowadays is fantastic for language translation and as a next gen search tool, but you can't write a proper document with it.
Vibe coding is fine for quick prototyping, but it can't make production ready code which takes understanding of use case and hardware.
Gen AI is good for quickly making placeholder art but it takes a proper artist to make the artistic choices.
In essence, AI is a glorified unpaid intern and you can only give it tasks that you'd give to one. Biggest issue with AI are retarded users who give AI tasks that require deliberation.

People won't want them the same reason people don't want vaccines or think 5G will make them gay, just fear of things they don't understand.
Implants that can actually interact with the body will be a world changer. Imagine if hereditary conditions like MS could be solved through these implants, that would not only save thousands of people, but would also save a shitton of money that goes into them. Win/win.

Oh, and I guess fulldive video games could be a thing. Once you start transferring your consciousness into a game, I dunno, that's actually dangerous.

That's kind of retarded, but people will do that once the convenience is recognized.
That's the big thing stopping a VR takeoff, that you need a big headset on you, even with something far more portable like the new Apple one, and nobody wants to wear shit like Google Glass because it'd make you look like a faggot.
But getting a chip that tells you everything you need to know? No phone, just instant information highway accessed from your mind? People would be all over that once celebs start talking it up.
The big concern with that would moreso be ensuring regulations are in place, something like "You can't make chip implants a work regulation" (sort of like how workplaces give you company phones and computers), but considering the absolute state of America, I would not be surprised if that isn't regulated.

Jdownloader doesn't let you choose a single file from a zip file, and yt-dlp ffmpeg work on some sites not everything, a video i needed to only download 5 mins in the middle of the video from 1 hour, first problem was yt-dlp didn't work with it so i had to find another AI made some scripts that allowed me to download from any duration, but downloading anything from middle comes out corrupted AI then told me the way to fix it was to download first and last 5 seconds then combine them with any of the middle parts and they would fix the corruption without having to download the entire video, i searched all over the internet and couldn't find anything like this

I'm guessing he means learn how to use it to create programs that can automate or streamline your work?
Because otherwise I don't see how learning how to prompt images or music or learning how to create AI from the ground up is useful or feasible.

But then using AI to automate your work doesn't seem so great when the good AI costs a subscription fee.

I mean if you prompt enough to make 3D assets and create a game, ok, but when everyone is doing the same thing, then what is the end goal?

You can buy and sell them. They didn't work because they were confusing with no context(I still barely understand them lol, people are retarded for spending on it) but the idea of NFTs in games does have a potential future still, even though it crashed and burned so far.
You guys probably don't know this but people make and spend money on MMOs already and NFTs are a kind of logical advancement of digital economies like that.

LLMs have a problem of becoming decoherent after anything goes over its context length, once that happens it very easily tends to forget past instructions and basically screws any consistency out of it. This is an inherent problem of LLMs, so some researchers are making a new architecture to make this a non-issue, these models are called World Models as opposed to Large Language Models. I give it a minimum of 3 years before these World Models are viable, once that happens AI will truly become a consistent smart tool that literally and easily does the work of a professional dev team without issue.

In simple terms, a washing machine is like a robot. It automatically performs tasks that humans would otherwise have to do by hand—such as washing, rinsing, and spinning clothes. You just press a few buttons, and it follows a programmed sequence to clean your laundry without needing constant supervision. That’s what makes it a robot—it’s a machine that can carry out specific actions on its own.

That's going to happen to vast swathes of industry and learning how to use AI on a surface level isn't really going to prevent that, since everyone will be doing the same thing which is why I'm confused about what he means by "learn AI".
If he meant learn how to code your own LLM or AI then that makes more sense to me, but that's just the same thing as telling people to learn to code, and CS degrees aren't really netting people jobs right now.

War games and RPGs evolved though. MMOs stagnated. They tried to slap mobile mechanics, cash shops, and half-baked social systems onto a 2005 formula and called it innovation. Nobody wants to wait for respawn timers and group up for raids anymore when a singleplayer gacha game gives you dopamine every 30 seconds. The genre isn’t "dead” dead, but it’s comatose and Twitch-streamer farmed.

I just can't do it. Like even nowadays there are fairly easy ways to make money as a content creator but I just don't have the courage to expose my real identity to the world. And nowadays people are already scraping wikipedia or other YouTube videos via their subtitles and automatically making AI edutainment videos that lack all form of real knowledge and spam YouTube with it but I also lack the amorality to do something like that even though I could do it if I really tried. In the back of my mind I would know I'm just pumping more AIslop into the world even if it becomes the defacto method of content creation.

Industry artist here.
Let me tell you about AI.

The problem with AI is that it lacks consistency, and it's hard to make edits with. When it works it works REALLY nice, can save hours of your time. However the issues start to arise when you don't generate exactly what you want, or if you generate something that's close but not quite there - AI struggles to fix those gaps in ways that look natural. You either have to try and edit it yourself (still requires a full creative skillset), or just try again with different parameters and pray the AI eventually hits the mark. So for people with strong visions for what they want, AI ends up missing the mark - but for people who do not care at all, it's perfect.

That's the first major problem with AI. The second problem is that not everyone is an artist, nor really benefits from the image/video generation aspect - and it's largely being pushed towards people who don't really have much use for it. Its predictive text use sky rocketed in quality until it hit a point of being genuinely believable, but then plateued at a point where it still isn't quite good. It still suffers from significant hallucinations, and struggles to retain facts over longer conversations - more often choosing to make up things that sounds correct instead of being factual. On top of that, it's susceptible to some good ol' social engineering, someone with the right knowhow can and will crack open an AI and get it to do what they want.
All of this means that large commercial application for AI is still not quite good enough. It sits in the same bubble as VR. It's cool, but it's just not there yet and it won't ever really BE where people fantasize it as until there's more major leaps in technology.

It's basically snakeoil as it currently is. It can't be much else until it gets significantly better. It'll get better, but the push to make it financially successful RIGHT NOW is too soon.

With the current 3d models i would say its still worth to learn
Especially if you want to customise the models
But if they get better? Get a way to prompt edits? Yeah...
Its all a gamble

It's profitable in the same way streaming is. Some people are making absolute killings with it, while 99.99% of other ventures are dead in the water due to just how oversaturated the market has become. will likely get better as it offer thinking, eventually probably offer more stages of generation where you can pinpoint when it hallucinates, the main problem is that there isn't like an easily sharable and exact prompt/code to get the same result

the whole prompt and fixing is like other tasks where you need to iterate

Depending on the field: It definitely can be, especially if you genuinely
>pick a good set of articles that you think would be representative of a subject space
>Sit down and take notes
>read the entire article every time
>not stop reading the article and,
>continue by reading other related articles,
>until you understand everything within the article

Remember: the problem isn't actually wikipedia, it's dullards who are either bad at reading or building a useful curriculum. The content is in fact there and good.

This is most retarded take ever.
Ai can automate multiple processes at the same time, with a crude idea of what you want Ai can create art and music, sooner videogames and movies too, so you think that people are the ones who would be benefitting from that?
People can't be that retarded, if the only thing you need to create something is an idea, a machine can analyse what you like and serve it with algorithm recommendations exactly like it's done at the moment.
The time of people creating things is done, soon you will only consume the slop that alphabet wants you to, and you are celebrating it.
Enjoy it, I'm glad that I'm too fucking old to really care

Wikipedia doesn't really give you that experience and you'd end up having to google through obscure forums hoping some autist would help you and it isn't even in person. ChatGPT wouldn't be much better since in my experience it just gives you answers without really explaining the concepts in a "teaching" way.

Imagine you're using Unreal Engine 5 and something broke again. You could try literally every setting in it, see that nothing does anything, then you can try googling to find out 20 minutes later that it's some obscure bug that happens when you name an asset "Asset1" and put it in a folder called "01". Or you could just ask AI

Dishonest argument. Humanity benefits from increased food production. I'm not against technology. If we can create some fusion power shit and have unlimited energy and warp drives and whatever, cool. But do you think every technology created has benefitted us, made society better, made individual lives better? Are you aware of just how many people on Earth drive for a living? The idea of replacing menial jobs with robots is good, everyone can do something creative instead... oh shit, no they can't, thats getting replaced too. Imagine a world where the majority of people have nothing they can do to make a living exceptr maybe scrabbling around in trash heaps like some third worldies.. I can see certain, more difficult degrees, like engineering providing more benefits by actually going in person to a university class but still is that worth 60k or more when you can just tell chatgpt "you are a teacher, explain it to me like Im 5" so it wont just give answers only? Using AI is a skill all its own.

Thats how Ive been programming videogames, I dont have the AI write the programs because then it always fucks up, I tell the AI to explain to me what to do then I go and write the code myself.

Has your engineering degree gotten you a job btw?
My degree is just a bachelors in computer systems, not impressive but I make six figures and it took basically no effort for me to get through university even before AI existed so I actually had to write my own papers.
I hope you end up making more money than me to reward your effort, but I suspect effort does not equal reward. Kind of sums up AI really

Cause if it's just about prompts, then sure, I may be able to fulfill my lifelong dream of doing animation.

If it's learning how to code, then things should stay pretty much the same, employment-wise.

Engineering is more than just raw maths. You need the labs and hands-on aspects to really get a feel for it. It's like in highschool where you can read from a book about how to make chemicals all day, but you won't truly understand it beyond the theory until you actually start making the chemical mixtures yourself or you actually dissect frogs and mice.

it's not perfect 100% of the time - but if I was a clueless "vibe coder" I wouldn't be able to spot the mistakes and correct it on the spot.

also, I hear a lot of artists say "if you don't love the process, you don't love creating" but surely there's some wiggle room when it comes to using AI to assist you with your actual vision, rather than just accepting whatever random shit gets rolled on the slop machine?

Exactly what anon showcased in the post I replied to. Give it totally unrelated images and they can be referenced in any way you want such as combing two characters in one image like that post.

For example heres the dark queen from battletoads I used a combo of official arcade art and fanart to make

Show me what videogames you're working on using AI /v/, heres one I made in a day where a placeholder sailor moon sprite chases me in a dungeon who can attack and kill me as I fight her off with a 2D sprite animated sword swing (that I genned in AI) and also a separate level editor program I created for the game.
There are other features implemented such as an inventory system, picking up a gun from a chest and shooting it at her etc, shopkeeps, an economy but none of that stuff has been turned into something functional yet.

I know a little bit about coding, but I'm a complete amateur and never could have made a videogame before, and still only have learned a little bit, its 90% AI, 10% me debugging/fixing/hand writing some code.

That sounds very soulful.
The hardest part is getting started and laying all the foundations for all the mechanics/physics/collisions/movement/animations/interactions etc, after that it's just grunt work polishing it up and then lastly the next hard part of being creative planning out the rest of the game and actually making something interesting.

I basically have the mechanics and general control layout in my mind the game is going to be about an irresponsible wizard who accidentally blew up his own mage tower during an experiment and now tries to close a portal through which his lands are being flooded with weird otherworldly shit but quite honestly i'm surprised how intuitive the unity as a game engine is, especially with chatbots to act as C# tutors.

I forget how much more intuitive using a dedicated engine must be. I coded my own engine so I had to define tons of basic shit like what a floor is, how to stand on it, how many times per minute the lights flicker etc stuff.

I assume when you use Unity a lot of that headache stuff is basically predone for you? Honestly it makes a lot more sense to use unity, if I ever want to make an actual serious videogame Id be using it too but in my case Im just learning and messing around for fun.
