OG RE4 is one of my all time favorites, but to be honest, I always opt to play the Remake version. There is some shit the OG does better. The atmosphere is better in some sections, the death scenes are gnarlier, and Saddler/Salazar are better. But as an overall package, I just think the Remake does more things better, and I have more fun with it. I don't think that's a knock on the Original. I think an compentent team SHOULD be able to make a superior game to the original if there's 20 years of tech advancement between them.

Also the older I get, the more I realize OG Leon was early mid 2000s cool, but is a cringe fucking dork these days and is only enjoyable if you look at him as a goofball, which I think how most people view him these days anyway. Remake Leon is at least pretty consistent with how he was in RE2R.

Saddler can directly speak to them and even see or speak through them if he actively tries, but he doesn't have perfect awareness of everything they say and do and can't just transmit thoughts between all ganados at all times. I'm a zoomer who played through the original in 2020 with mouse and keyboard, got controller-pilled on it and RE5 when I played RE5 locally with a friend, then went back and beat original RE4 on Professional with a controller.
I personally think the remake is slightly better for the ways in which it expands on half-finished ideas like the blue medallions or firing range, allows for mid-combat quips like the kind in the Salazar fight for example, and interestingly revamps the gunplay while still preserving the element where people endlessly argue over which pistol is the best.
Though I will admit the original shines more for stuff like giving you more control over Ashley's movements, having better cutscene banter in the radio segments, and it's history in the industry.
