Quite honestly it doesn't deserve neither the love, nor the hate y'all are showing - it's a mediocre fantasy slasher in a mostly-empty world. There are games with better gameplay (Shadow of War, Sekiro), there are games with better atmosphere (Witcher 2/3), but the style is quite my tempo, I love the dark fantasy shit.

All in all it's the Mad Max to Arkham City - pretty good, but nothing to write home about.

Beat the game in 2 hours 50 minutes yesterday. Think I can probably get it under 2 hours 30, but to get it under 2 hours would require substantial route changes and giving up most of my safety nets, and I don't think I'm willing to.

Fromsoftware never cared about this stuff, I'd be surprised if they do now. Elden Ring is very specifically tied to certain themes and concepts and the title would not work in a different game. Otherwise you end up like Dark Souls 2, a game tied to the trilogy with paper thin plot elements that just shares the name

NTA, I liked Underrail a lot. It's just a very solid CRPG with tons of build options, fun exploration and a cool XP system.
The dev is mad retarded though.

I was glad I didnt buy it because its shit outside of the boss fights and main story areas. Open world is fucking retarded and led to a bunch of copy and pasted garbage.

I wasn't a huge fan the first time I played ER but I replayed it recently and unironically did two playthroughs back to back and the DLC. It's a good game even if some of the DLC bosses can suck a fat one. My biggest issues is that you spend an hour and a half on prep time at the start and the scaling system can really pigeon hole some builds.

Remember, the game gives you the tools to succeed, you can choose which buttons you press and which abilities you use. Using spirits or summons is a perfectly fine way to play the game, as Miyazaki intended.

The only game I ever did that for was Resident Evil 2 on Playstation. I rented out of Blockbuster one weekend and it blew my mind so I went straight out and bought a full price copy from Woolworths on Monday.

can someone explain the seemingly huge appeal of ER? is it just "souls newcomers"? after playing demons souls, ds1-3 and bb and playing er until i reached the capital (whatever its name was) i got exhausted. to me it was just more ds3 with an open world.

The game actually starts to pick up once you get to Liurnia, that is when you start to see some truly beautiful art direction, and the game impresses you with its sheer scale and that classic From vertically stacked level design but this time in an open world context.
