Is what I'd say if this weren't literally Secret Wars.
What went wrong with Armored Core, to be on topic for once, could be that the game is designed and I say this having only happily sampled Silent Line to be rather easy up until you fight the Zaku Ace with a Bazooka and suddenly you feel like little girl adventure anime is a healthy way to eat an entire box of ice cream sandwiches. True story on the history channel.

I'm still going through it and I'm loving it so far. Just got through the three main levels and unlocked the elevator.
To be honest I was sold when I was told it was mechamusume with traditional mech controls and an emphasis on exploration. Not a fan of loli either but learning you could make your robot girl chubby sealed the deal for me.
The music is also great, and the parts of the story and background I've been able to piece together are pretty cool too. I just wish some weapons (particularly the back weapons) had more explicit use cases; it's quite often you find a sick new weapon and turns out it can't even deal with the most basic of mobs and wastes half your ammo reserves while at it.
Bosses could stand to be tougher too. I've only fought one that was challenging so far and mostly because of how long it took to kill. I've had much more trouble handling mobs than bosses in general.

They simplified and casualised it for their Dark Souls audience since that's what FromSoftware is ever known for now.
The SOULSLIKE experience, the DARK SOULS of GAMING, the people BEHIND DARK SOULS, the CREATORS of dark souls. The pioneers of invincibility frame dodging.
They weren't confident in Armored Core 6 in well they decided to do what they did.
>repair kits
>staggers
>hard lockon
If it played more like the older games, the game would still do well and their company name alone would carry the game's sales. But they simply weren't confident enough.

As a newbaby to the series 6 was pretty fun, don't care much for dark souls (only played elden ring for ~14 hours before uninstalling) and It's a fine game, honestly one of my favorites of the last 5 years
I can't tell if I like it more then MoA or 3, but seeing as how im still playing 3 I have a lot of time to finalize my thoughts
Oh and the model kits are pretty cool, I like them a lot

I went with picrel, and it's been fantastic. I just slapped 6 flamers on a cicada and it's zoomy and flamey. Or I just got an awesome, and I put particle cannons and a bunch of missles on it, and it's slow ass fuuuuuick.

As I said that aspect did tip the scales in my decision to buy it. Very few games give you this option and even fewer do it tastefully.

The 360 controller and its consequences have been a disaster for gaming.
>Even if it were accurate, you can't even claw it, so camera control needs to be able to accommodate sporadic, heavily assisted use
>>716246828
Tank controls are the only control scheme that makes sense for single or dual analog gameplay.
All of this movement relative to the camera stuff should be reserved for true mouselook with an actual mouse.
I don't care if sub-80 IQ normalfags don't have the spatial reasoning required to divine which way is forward.

Mechwarrior 5 is fun. My biggest issue with it is how end-game you just want to take as many assaults as possible instead of considering using lighter mechs for specific roles. You can get away with doing that if you're playing co-op though and actually strategizing.

Overall? Without a doubt V. My favorite parts? 4. I love the recovered parts aesthetic from V, and the look of over-weapons messing up your UI. The short segments of them field testing the ACs is hard. But 4 has some cool designs too, Sobrero gives me Ace Combat 3 vibes. Best looking AC in the series.

I feel like I was playing wrong by not using any weapons I found after that point but most of them were disappointing or were too heavy for the zippy mech I was using.

Shame.
Before I started playing. I was daydreaming and going through possible game design with a friend. Involving the player only controlling 1 mech and their not being allied npc teams.
I was absolutely struggling to find a way to make low cost mechs more viable
My friend said that I was just describing path of exile, but a mech game, and thr solution was to give low cost mechs unique items and abilities only b they could use.

the only reason mech weight classes work in the tabletop game is because going fast/jumping let's you kite assaults and stay out of the line of fire the problem.
But MechWarrior gameplay is fucking archaic and hasn't changed since the second game so mechs can't go prone or make precise jumps like they can in the tabletop, the spider for example is supposed to be able to do mid air dodges and vectoring to avoid fire but in game its just a shitty light mech with the same dogshit jump jet mechanics as every other mech.

Yeah, in mech warrior it seems to just devolves down into "it weighs less".
I'm still having fun, but I'm still in early game and having a ton of fun.
What you described with the spider actually being able to air dodge kinda sounds like the "unique thing" that could be put on smaller mechs to up their value while keeping them small.
Going prone on a mech or having transformations or different forms sounds sick.

The games are still fun but there's really no reason to play anything other than MechWarrior 5 Mercs with the YAML and clan mods because that's probably the most mechanical complexity you can squeeze out of the current formula, unfortunately Piranha Games doesn't seem to be interested in actually iterating on the gameplay at all despite the tech being available

The tabletop game is also a wargame with units being fielded based on a point value system. You could field ~7 Fleas for the same value as a single Atlas. On the other hand literally every videogame based on the IP uses a slot system, either player or NPC ally slots, with every mech being worth the exact same 1 slot. There's literally no reason to spend 1 slot on 1 flea when you could spend it on 1 Atlas instead.

I'm enjoying this for the most part, but all of the weapons feel like dogshit due to the low damage and fire rate. I also noticed in the early game area with the flying drones that shoulder weapons don't lead your target like arm weapons do so they're fucking useless against anything that isn't huge or standing still. Even the homing missiles are guaranteed to miss anything that's moving even slightly more than not at all, making the homing feature pointless.
