Zoomer watching The Soprano's fir the first time:
I acknowledge the quality writing and the masterful acting of the lead managing to potray a distrubed selfish monster whilst being empathic and human enough that you can pity him.

But I also can't take it too seriously because 75% of all conflict is just one guy says some snide remark and then some other guy utterly loses their shit beyond comprehension. And I get that's the whole point but it's to such a pathethic degree I can't help but to find most of the show funny than actually dramatic. Almost everyone acts how /v/ mock women for acting- overemotional, delirious and deranged. I don't know how any of those fags would survive the internet.

The show unironically made me a bit more racist towards italians.

They're people whose entire life depends on how respected they are by their peers, getting away with making snide remarks about someone higher on the ladder pushes you higher up and obviously drags the recipient down which is why it has to be met with a strong enough response to deter any future attempts.
Nobody from New York was gonna try doing what Coco did again.

I wish the show had explored bobby's day to day as a thug, lonesharking and protection rackets. the hit on the canadian kid is portrayed as so tragic and out of the blue that it doesn't really reflect any darkness in bobby's character, you weep for bobby and what this pure hearted guy was forced to do.

Can you even tell me what The Sopranos is about? You probably think it’s about the italian mafia. It’s about a mafia, but I can tell you it’s not italian. Tony is depicted as an antihero, imagine who they want to depict as the heroes? I’m guessing you don’t know anyone because you’re here on 4chan. Have you heard of Pio La Torre? My cousins killed him and Vatniks weren’t too happy. Capisce? Communism is for the homeless

Seriously, is there a more brainlet take on the series? The entire fucking premise of the show is that Tony's suppressed emotions cause him to have panic attacks and pass out.

Tony never wanted to be a mafioso, he wanted to play and coach football. His father and mother forced him into the mafia against his will, and btw, Johnny boy molested Janice as a child, which is why Olivia fucking hates her and why Janice is so fucked up and calls her father "daddy" at 50 years old

I don't have to imagine. The jew guy who holds his honor so long Tony has to threaten to cut off his balls before he yields, the jew therapist who tells Carmela to her face everything that's wrong with her, the jew real estate scammer who Tony doesn't kill despite almost ripping Tony off for 200k, etc.

Sure I could see that, but given that Janice never has a problem with molestation down the road and the visitation is viewed through a different lens completely in Tony's therapy, AND how the show clearly makes Meadow's therapist the butt of a joke regarding therapists always trying to make patients think they were molested, I can say with 100% certainty that anon is just overreaching. Janice wasn't molested.

Exactly. People are reading waaay too much into it, like they’re desperate to squeeze trauma out of every interaction. Just because she still called him "daddy" doesn’t mean anything sinister happened. That kind of projection is exactly what the show mocked - like with Dr. Kupferberg being clueless and defaulting to "repressed abuse" any time someone had issues. Sometimes a dysfunctional family is just that - dysfunctional, not criminally traumatic.

She’s fat hag, envious of the success of her brother who probably seemed like he wouldn’t amount to much. She eventually developed and the relationship between Johnny boy and his wife soured. Johnny boy probably made an initial engagement of the act at some point while drunk and then figured he could make money on that sort of thing. So he would take Janice to the carnival where his friends were to solicit money from exploiting his own daughter. Janice, having friends in school told one of her friends and they told which eventually got to cops. They didn’t have evidence but could raid their operation at any moment they wanted to. Hence why tony was able to catch his dad getting busted while out with his sister. To Johnny’s benefit, they didn’t have anything substantial on him so he was free to go.

100% of Bobby's career in the mafia was built on being handed things he should never have had and somehow always avoiding any pushback. He was a bigger nepobaby than Tony ever was and then when Junior was removed from the scene everybody just allowed Bobby to claim most of his action because he was Junior's maid for a while. Then he falls for Janice's crap, gets told explicitly that if he wants more responsibility to start with controlling his wife and then gets bumped up to underboss without ever accomplishing anything, including controlling his wife.

>then gets bumped up to underboss without ever accomplishing anything, including controlling his wife.
So youre just completel disregard everytingthefuck else that happened during this time huh
Paulie is suspected to be a rat fuck by Tony even earlier than when they show it with the boat trip well after Ralph's death, as well as Christopher being a complete fucking failure on every level so he was a nogo
And who else was there, the guy that actively went out of his way to ask for more work when he could have kept being Jr's babysitter.
Do you even remember the fucking gary cooper entire conversation? Thats literally Bobby.
Bobby wasn't put into what he had because he muh neoptism.
He literally was the gary cooper, thats it.
And what right does any of the other capos or members have too jr's stuff after Tony usurped him, when it was all his anyway
And what Jr DID have after the usurption was barely fucking anything so bobby ofc would have that after jr got dementiad.
The entire point of Bobby was the kinda guy in the background that can do more if given the opportunity and then he got it, but tragically lost his soul from the spitefullness of tony.
Bobby is one of the greatest characters in that show.

>Bobby wasn't put into what he had because he muh neoptism
He absolutely was. He was a made guy despite never having killed anybody because of who his father was. He only started actually moving up after marrying Tony's sister. Tony is clearly shown to have a thing for nepotism through the entire series, Christopher was given a much higher standing than he should have had because of it as well which other characters point out.
>And who else was there, the guy that actively went out of his way to ask for more work when he could have kept being Jr's babysitter.
He asked for more work and then never did what he was told to do to get it, then got it anyway. Even someone like fucking Carlo would have been a better pick than Bobby and in hindsight treating Carlo better could have helped keep him from flipping. Pat Parisi would probably have been the best pick and he would have even fit into Tony's nepo criteria with him set to become Meadow's father-in-law.
>And what right does any of the other capos or members have too jr's stuff after Tony usurped him
What right does Bobby have to something he didn't take for himself? If the others could carve up Junior's old action then why shouldn't they? Who does Bobby actually have working under him? All he did was use Junior's name as intimidation to make Junior's collections.
Bobby was basically what AJ would have been if Tony had tried injecting him into the family, a useless weak slob.

>75% of all conflict is just one guy says some snide remark and then some other guy utterly loses their shit beyond comprehension
The thing you have to understand about the world is that unhinged people who should not be in power chase power and thus are commonly found among people who actually do have power. And these people will fuck people for basically any slight. It makes sense that it's funny at first but as each season progresses it really stops being funny because the hypocrisy builds up to the point where it simply can't be funny because at some point every interaction with these characters is so fucking dark and devoid of any honesty.

This is a somewhat separate point but small shit can have incredibly huge consequences in the world. When they were picking Japanese targets to drop the bomb, they picked a city but some guy in the room vacationed there before the war and said he didn't want a place so beautiful destroyed so they changed the target to Hiroshima. One guy's vacation changed the fate of hundreds of thousands of people.

I'd say the clearest example of how you're expected to find the characters both likeable and deplorable was Ralph laughing at Sil smacking Tracie around. It was a funny moment and they knew you would laugh but you aren't meant to think that Ralph was right to be laughing about it himself.
The characters are wrong but enjoyable to watch.

I find that today a lot of people focus on the tragedy of the characters and not how reprehensible they are as well.

adding onto my other post I think the showrunners caught onto this as well since every time a character dies they usually commit some heinous crime beforehand that I suppose is meant to soften the blow. Example: JT Dolan and Chrissy, Eugene and Teddy, Vito and the random guy he merks.

Also I find it incredibly fitting that the only one who survives by the end of the Sopranos is the most cockroach-like of the crew (Paulie)

Gonna be honest, I don't get the hype
>Erm *doink* But it's heckin' realistic you see! You're following around bad people in their day to day lives, and come to understand why they are the way they are!
The news is realistic too. Do you binge watch the news? No, I don't want to come to understand these "people". What exactly is there to understand? They're scum, so they probably either had terrible shit childhoods, or are just sociopaths. Scum either need to blow their brains out, or rot in prison. Simple as.

It doesn’t make literal sense, but symbolically? Kinda. The show’s a masterpiece, but it definitely plays into every Italian-American stereotype in the book: gabagool, overbearing mothers, pinky rings, hot tempers, nepotism, constant yelling, etc. It’s like David Chase took everything your Nonna warned you about and made an HBO budget opera out of it. Doesn’t mean it was malicious, but it sure didn’t help the “Italians = Mafia” thing.

its funny because back in those days, you were absolutely correct to hate americans with 25% italian/irish blood, acting as if they are just genuinely those nationalities.

but these days, a lot of americans just act like pavement apes instead. them being deluded into thinking they were irish/italian, was far, far superior into them being deluded into thinking they are black.

He loved the things, had a big Lionel that was the gem of his collection that his kids did not give a shit about. It's actually in the background of several scenes he has with Janice throughout the last couple of seasons. For some reason the track looks like it just has a ramp that goes nowhere at the edge of the table though, I don't think those things go fast enough to do jumps.

Paulie constantly alludes to the fact that he survived the last war, while nearly everyone else from it was a casualty of some sort. Makes you wonder what he and Uncle June did to survive while practically the rest of the DiMeo family ends up dead, or in prison.
But then you see what Paulie did, and it's basically just playing both sides while hoping to not get put in the crosshairs.

The point is that he has free will. He could have found a way through life without joining the mafia. He could've moved to New York and made something of himself, he was a boomer so it wasn't exactly hard to do in those days. Tony chose that life, regrets it and doesn't want it for his own son. Problem is he's far too deep in it to ever leave it, I really doubt he would leave even if he had the chance though, he enjoys the lifestyle.

Also nobody is racist to Italians in the current year unless they are the most unhinged nordicist tier /pol/fag. People who were racist to Italians were mostly so due to Italians being Catholic

well, plenty of people are extremely racist towards white people in general. and before you say 'hurr italians aren't white' it doesn't matter. anyone less brown than a muslim is included. however that is state sanctioned racism, and heavily propagandised. so people tend to think its acceptable, when it absolutely is not.

chronically online, they don't care about the internet and are relics of a bygone era to begin with. Its a theme that drips into the series the more you watch it. Not sure wht the point of your acting like how /v/ describes women when a lot of people on /v/ aren't tough at all and the Sopranos series is not some Andrew Tate guide book to begin with. Tony goes to a female therapist since the beginning of the series because the point is he is emotional.
