It's super complicated. I noticed that back in the '90s, most games featured portals. In Doom, demons from Hell are teleported to Mars. In Quake, you move to a Lovecraftian world. Half-Life has a similar premise to Doom, but with aliens instead of demons.
Mario teleports to his gay world. Sonic also features teleportation.
In Warcraft, orcs teleport from Draenor, their original world, to Azeroth, the world where Warcraft games take place.
That being said, Tron and The Matrix have kind of the same premise as Expedition 33.
There are also stories and myths about people getting pulled into other realms. A well-known Western example is the legend of the Fairy Realm in Celtic folklore—where people are lured or accidentally step into fairy circles or hidden portals and end up in an entirely different dimension.
