Basically you have servers that try to copy the wow expansion as it was and you have "fun servers" that add whatever weird shit the devs thought would be cool to add to wow when they were 10 years old playing it for the first time.

"fun servers" with terrible balance typically dont do that well because everyone plays the game with the terrible PvP as they levelling hoping it gets better at higher levels and it always gets worse because the devs dont actually understand PvP and a few devs sometimes even make their favourite class blatantly OP to the point they arent fun to play against and when everyone realizes the PvP isnt going to get good then most people bail.
Some people play the game exclusively for the PvE and many of those will stay, but there arent enough of those people playing private servers for "nostalrius 2"

Tbh i never liked griefing people, but used to always roll on PvP realms because of my friends. Years later, I reluctantly tried a PvE server, thinking it was babbyshit, but turns out it's just so much more tranquil and enjoyable when you're not spending hours being resskilled and ganked by higher lvl people.

Recently I tried a PvP realm again, Warmane - Icecrown, and max lvl, PvP-geared people camp lvl 30 flight masters there. So fucking tiresome.

Nost was competing with another one that was also building hype and nost basically released the server before they were actually ready to. class quests werent working on release, stealth was broken basically the whole time nsot was out, out of combat healing from spirit didnt work the way it should. But there was huge hype for a new server for whatever reason and they released before their competition.

The funny thing is there was a huge debate about how nost wasnt accurate and their competition had the more accurate way for doing things. A lot of people were saying nost was the closest to real vanilla there has ever been and those other guys had no idea what they were talking about. then classic came out and it turned out the other server did have some of those things more accurate. nost maybe had some raid mechanics more accurate but fundamental mechanics like out of combat healing (not a big deal) were not done properly, stealth not being properly was really lame though.

For anyone thinking about playing a rogue just to kill low levels like in red ridge, I would like you to consider picking druid.
Druid lets you quickly level as a tank while in feral spec and most importantly you get track humanoid. Track humanoid for killing low levels has been insanely helpful and I've found tons of people I would of missed if I didnt have it.

Number 1, its not worth the hassle and it will just cause random problems and there are weird limitations because of how the game is designed. Reminder, we're talking about a game for the majority of its life they couldn't increase the size of the players starter backpack because of tech limitations.
Number 2, killing low levels is a completely overblown issue. People who act like it's such a common and constant thing that makes it impossible to level when in actuality its not.
Number 3, This is a social game and if you're having trouble with a high level killing you you can announce it in world chat or to your guild and most likely you will get multiple high levels come and kill him for you.
Number 4, you're signing up for this to some degree by deciding to play on a pvp server.

When faction balance isn't enforced a lot of the time they end up being a 95 / 5 split with most of those kinds of servers horde majority. People mostly picked horde specifically for their racials like orcs stun resist or wotf which makes them great in pvp, but on epoch you can use any races racials.

Murloc Quest that requires you kill murlocs all the way across the entire coastline spanning an overly long range of levels. By the time you're ready to start killing the higher level murlocs the low level ones the quest wants are probably gray which will make you want to just skip it. Defias Messenger is annoying. Aside from the Defias storyline the quests in the zone itself are really dull. It's almost entirely cooking or loot quests where you need to get a bunch of boar livers and snouts, vulture meat, okra, hops, paws, bandanas, oil, and a bunch of other stuff. Unless you get super lucky with a bunch of bags, your inventory will be 90% sellable quest items. All of the mobs for those quests are spread far apart so you can't just focus on one. The main reason why people like it is because of Nostalgia, and because Elwynn/Duskwood are both great.
The treasure map quest is really cool though, and I like how the Defias quests stretch through multiple zones to tell a good story.

I went from Grom'Gol north towards Duskwood and met him right on the bridge, we started fighting back and forth, he would always get away with travel form and heals and then sneak back and get the jump on me. Why doesn't someone take Wildstar and do this whole Vanilla+ thing with that game? I basically never lose in pvp in vanilla as a lock. I have killed 60s at level 51+ on multiple occasions. Not sure about this sketchy private server but in official servers you have so many tools at your disposal. SL/Nightfall also is basically unkillable with even half a brain. You can take on literally any class with that build, only naxx gear rogues are a problem and when you get T3 stuff you just straight up cant die

Destro lock might want to do fire damage with immolate/conflag/incinerate, dunno about the actual numbers though, and if MC is still fire immune then that's that. But affli would want to be shadow ofc
