I played like 2h last night, I'm really looking forward to playing it again after work. so far its another souls like, which I dont mind, but it does movement well so thats already better than 90% of other games. thats always my main concern
about the level up system, its like a hidden skill tree. you unlock clusters of nodes once you level up a specific node, and theres stat nodes that usually benefit your weapon (like how the longsword path has str nodes), skill nodes and mastery nodes, which seem to work just like dark souls weapon enhancement at a blacksmith

I actually think this is why it’s getting review bombed because I’m 10 hours in and I like it even more than Stellar Blade, which I enjoyed thoroughly. What do you mean? It's just a skill tree with other requirements IE you might need X item to buy a node instead of the skill points bought with Red Mercury. It basically combines things like the Estus Flask Shards into the skill tree too.

one hand magic paypig dlc sword (i pirated) with lightning longsword that i can swap to after i build up whatever the feather resource is called

one hand swords get a passive that randomly generates feather points so no need to try to dodge enemies on purpose, play normally, build up points, l3 swap to long sword, charge heavy behind and crit, rinse and repeat with one hand sword swipes L1 weaved in for damage

my longsword apparently can build up paralysis, which i assume is a short electric stun? but i dont have the talent for it to build up properly yet

pretty fun game so far, i like that it encourages you to stay close and try to get behind the enemy but the enemies also have a lot of swings to try to catch you, ill probably do some type of magic/str or magic/dex focus while leveling

Man I am incredibly pleasantly surprised at how much I'm enjoying this game. It's got the more fleshed out and engaging gameplay of the TN Souls likes but still not neglecting the engaging and fun exploration that made the first Dark Souls so good. Honestly the hot MC is purely a bonus. This is legit one of the best souls likes I've ever played. Fuck it might be the best souls like.

Discipline is just the LT/L2 move, its swappable and I think even for other weapon types. Swift Draw is you clicking in the left stick with a charge of might and you swap weapon and it automatically uses the LT/L2 skill

Performance is pretty bad but it's playable for me, I get around 50 FPS with dips to 40. I turned on Lossless Scaling but I do feel the latency. Had to turn it off for the first boss. Basically similar performances I got from emulating Bloodborne. But I don't know, she feels more sluggish.

I get so over whelmed with shit like pic related. I feel like it does a very poor job at introducing/tutorializing mechanics and making them feel intuitive. It all sounds more convoluted than it needs to be. I'm so tired of shit like this in games.

The game is OK so far. Nothing special, completely standard fromsoft ripoff that does everything OK, no originality. Lies Of P remains better. Atmosphere is pretty bland. But level design is decent. Starts linear, but feels twisty and vertical enough.

I don't know about the combat. It's not clicking well for me. Idk if it's because the performance is making it feel sluggish. The hud at the bottom is throwing me off. I don't get half the mechanics, like how magic works or what skyborne whatever even does. Or what's the point of the perfect dodge, or if I missed a defensive option besides the axe block, I didn't see a parry.

Perfect dodge adds 1 point of skyborn might which is the glowing blue feather at the left corner of the UI. Skyborn might is basically your mana. It allows you to use spells or enhanced version of your attacks i.e. a non enhanced weapon skill may deal ok damage but enhanced versions can not only stagger the target but deal immense damage. Once you go through your skill tree, you unlock more ways to gain skyborn might. If you play a magic build, you gain 1 every few seconds by simply having a sword equipped.

I'm maybe 4-5 hours in so far and it's ok I guess. I just beat the giant centipede demon boss and made it to what I think is the second major area of the story.
It plays fine for the most part. Areas are big and there's actually a lot of exploration with paths that loop back onto the central "hub" and exploration isn't just following a mostly linear path with branching dead ends that lead to extra stuff. Even in the first area there's actually several entirely optional areas and some bosses you can completely miss if you don't actually look around. The only problem with it is that the shrines/checkpoints are spread out really far, so if you die before unlocking the shortcuts you have to deal with long run backs.
Not that dying is a problem because the game has been really easy so far. Like ridiculously easy. I'm not sure how people are having trouble. None of the enemies or bosses have janky or weird hitboxes/delays on their attacks so everything is easy to see and dodge, and the window for the perfect dodge is very lenient. Bosses in particular have a lot of moments where they'll do an attack and then just stand around for a few moments doing nothing so you can get a charged attack in and fatal attack them. I've first tried every boss so far except for the priest guy and that's because I died to corruption buildup because I didn't have the cleansing item on my hotbar.
I've pretty much exclusively been using the axe/halberd it has the only moveset I like and you actually do have super armor and wreck enemy poise when using it. You get an upgrade that restores stamina on the 3rd hit of the light string and gives you two feathers on the 4th hit, so you never run out of resources. And since staggers enemies consistently it's easy to get a full combo.
Like I said, it's alright, but at this point it hasn't really done anything to set itself aside from other soulslikes. I heard it does spike in difficulty later so maybe that will make it more interesting.

Combat was better than alright imo, it just starts kind of slow but it felt very good once each weapon got going. I thought the story and level design was serviceable, nothing outstanding but nothing bad enough to make the game not fun to play. I actually liked some of the characters despite not knowing anything about the DFO universe. Khazan himself was cool and so was Blade Phantom. Nothing went to "pure garbage" tier, I think that's a bit a much. And yeah, the Nioh 3 alpha was awesome, it's definitely going to be a good game. Kinda enjoying it, currently going through poison hellhole. Was I supposed to have found more than one estus capacity/potency upgrade by this point? The skill tree makes it look like there's going to be tons but I'm still at 1/1 on them. I feel like I've gone everywhere possible by this point... Currently running purely dual blades since finding the gunswords even though I think their active isn't that great it's still funny to back off and just shoot someone real quick. With all the passives you can just sit there and mash attack against anything that uses weapons, it's really funny.

I defeated the boss at the top of the temple with max madness, but died of the corruption DOT. Forgot about the demon as I ran up back and got trapped against the wall in a panicked roll. Lost all the souls from the boss which sucked.
Previously the demon defeated the elite guy outside since it will attack everyone so that was fun

I have to say, I'm really liking the level design of the game. Only at the shu sanctum area but creazy how many winding paths are there. Would have been nice if it actually lead to new zones and biomes though. But the connectivity is really nice.

I still have to go back to worship's rise though since I think I have to find someone there. Game is really giving early DaS1 tension but at least it has some teleports.
