I really don't get the plasmid economy in this game. There has to be a way to collect ADAM without one way or another terminating its supply chain. And why are they incentivizing poaching ADAM by making it the same currency for the plasmid vending machines? You don't see McDonald's trading hamburgers for chunks of raw beef.

The cartoonish morality era in RPGs is a real thing. Fable, KotOR, everything Bioware for that matter, Fallout had Karma involved for some reason, I'm playing Elin right now and it has a Karma system from Elona which was also created at roughly the same time.
It's just a weirdly persistent theme from the mid 2000s to like 2012.

If you're going to put a moral choice in the game and then berate / praise the player for it then it should have an actual temptation involved that makes the choice matter. In Bioshock there's zero reason to ever consider compromising your morals because not only do you get a bad end, not only do you feel bad for killing a kid BUT it's bad from a purely gameplay point of view as well.

This is bad game design and it doesn't teach the player anything.
