It is pretty shit. I don't have a problem with killing the ostensible MC for shock value, lots of games have done that. What infuriates me about the game is the lack of direction. You had a reasonably interesting set-up - a team of people sent to kill God get wiped out early but the survivors regroup and begin a slow journey to explore and level up so they stand a chance. Verso is so OBVIOUSLY sus that once he's heading the party, you don't know what "you" are doing in the game any more apart from waiting to find out what the mystery bait has been leading to.

In other words, gustave never really dies.
story definitely was worse off with gustave leaving. the verso swerve was cool cause you find out that theres more to the world than lumiere and it was actually lumiere and all its citizens that are unnatural to the painting. then act 3 happened and didnt really know what all the twists are actually for so we end on an even bigger twist so that the audience and clap their hands and feet together at the deep commentary. its a good game. the story's delivery is better than its structure and thats what carries it.
a story action focused game disguised as a turn based rpg.
>>716383276 (OP)Gameplay is absolutely addictive but yeah, the story and characters are pretty bad, honestly.
Gustave's death had no emotional impact, and the whole plot should have focused more on the existential aspect of the paintings instead of the dumb family drama bullshit.
Overall just a huge miss.
The game is carried by its fun gameplay and phenomenal presentation.

I used free aim shots as my only attack for most of it, anything else was just a waste of AP since damage was capped at 9999. You don't even need to parry with this "playstyle" outside of one or two bosses just before the damage uncap, all the enemies die before getting a turn.

>>716406019I noticed that too. The game's "story mode" is on par with any other game's normal mode - it is not an "easy mode" at all. I always start a new game in easy/story to get a quick feel of the mechanics and see if I am going to like it before restarting on hard mode. Saves me from getting too time invested only to find out it's going something I am going to stick with. But, this game? There is very little to no difference in the difficulty level. So, my suspicion is that it is either...
>The devs don't know what they're doing in making different difficulty settings.>They did it on purpose to troll game games jours (like you asked).>They want to project a false sense of difficulty "See the game is really hard, look how tough the story mode even is."I don't know. But, for bad players who NEED the easy mode - you're in for a hard time.

>>716401152>Young verso seems so nice when you talk to him throughout the game and really seem to care about the whole world, it makes no sense he wants to be erased at the end.I feel that a lot of people seem to miss that the bigger picture of the story talks all about growing up and accepting that things have to end, and how children must in turn be free. Young Verso doesn't know that he's dead but he gets closer to death the more the canvas is torn apart by everything that shouldn't be there, old Verso struggles to reconcile his nature as a painted person with his wish to save Aline and it's only at the end that the two are able to finally understand being at peace.
>>716383276 (OP)I'll admit what this game did very well was capture "in the moment" aspects of the game. Anyone with any critical thinking skills, however, will realize upon finishing the game and sitting on it for a week that ultimately this game offered nothing satisfying in terms of a conclusion or what you accomplished in said game.
Meanwhile I'm on my second runthrough of Rebirth and I'm still having fun with the combination of characters and ways they interact and weave in combat together.

>>716407812Except Verso decides for everybody else, and the monstruous gods get to grieve while everyone is dead.
It's not just about Aline and Verso at this point, because those gods created more life inside the painting, which young Verso states as "equal to the outside".
It's like asking your child to die so you can finally mourn their sibling, it's monstruous yet Verso clings to Aline like a little boy instead of telling her to fuck off and erase him for good and let the painting rest.

>>716383276 (OP)My problem is that it's revealed Verso specifically let Gustave die. Made me genuinely despise the main character, I lost all motivation in the story at that point. He's reason was half assesd and wrong, and Maelle kind of just accepts it.
>>716408464That's why I was fully expecting Maelle to erase him after they would get Renoir. The whole painted family was dead but him as this point
>>716408095Yes, and said FICTIONAL people wouldn't exist if Alicia didn't betray her family and went to the Writers. I'm almost positive that Verso happened to spark this by wanting to play the piano and that's why I brought up how growing up fits into the overall narrative: Lumiere will never be happy because it's the dark reflection of the Dessendres in the worst days of their lives, and the light can only return when they bid goodbye to Verso for good. I also speculated earlier that Expedition 33 might actually be Alicia's account of the story she experienced when she almost died inside the canvas and that's the real reason why Verso's ending looks so bright and hopeful: Because she really did turn out alright in the end.
>>716408536Well I'll never find out at this point. It's one thing to write a flawed character, it's another thing to make me hate the character.

OP is a nigger
/thread
>analyzing the outcomes of the endings based on artistic choices in their visual direction rather than on intellectual thinking and logical reasoning
damn, versofags are desperate aren't they?
>>716411859>Nier is about the only game that can really compareya I forgot about the soundtrack that literally no one talks about except nierfags lol
>>716406019Yeah, the "story mode" in this game is mislabeled. Either intentionally or unintentionally. It's actually more like a normal mode, if not a bit tougher actually.
For most people "story mode" aka easy mode is what they expect when they just want to chill through the game and enjoy the story without having to sweat and farm for hours to get to level.
I actually use easy mode now and them. I play a lot of souls-like and nioh-like games. I don't want every game I play to be a sweatfest of difficulty, sometime I just want to breeze through and enjoy a relaxed time.
This game lies to you when it uses the label "story mode." It is not.
>>716418006Glad your knowledge of the game was petrified at launch so I can call you a fucking retard. Fucking retard. Check the patch notes.
>>716418262so you have never used it.... that makes sense actually. another indian screeching in defense of his employer (microsoft call center)
>No Noco in Verso ending
>No Emma in Maelle ending
Why is Alicia such a cunt?
>>716418348I did before and after it got patched. Retard.
>>716383276 (OP)What exactly are you complaining about?
Sorry, but Verso is way more likeable. And he doesn't have an ugly as fuck unibrow.
>>716418743I played it so much I BROKE the game
>>716419296Nice shitpost lmao
>>716419391Nice cope faggot lmfao
I hate the French so much it's unreal...
The good ending is literally the responsible father dragging his hysterical, fiction-addicted wife and daughter to rehab and therapy. The fuck are you on about?
>>716383276 (OP)Don't be a child.
>>716411924Too much soul in those french fuckers. It's leaking out all over the place.
>>716414559Maelle gommages into gold petals because gold is Alicia's color.
Verso gommages into white petals because white is Aline's color.
Everyone else gommages into red petals because red is Verso & Renoir's color.
>>716419539We know nafroid
>>716392028Did you like, not give your party any speed pictos or something? Hell, there are even pictos that give you the first turn automatically and you can one-shot just about anything besides chromatics, or at least kill something before it even has a chance to take its turn and cutting down on the number of enemies that even get to attack in a fight. Sounds to me like you can't build your party for shit.
>>716390545>and the whole plot should have focused more on the existential aspect of the paintings instead of the dumb family drama bullshitIt does both. I'm not sure you were paying attention.
>shill shill shill, the fact that there was more than 1 thread up when the game came out means that this game was pushed by paid marketers
>why can't the threads just occur organically, like how it worked for BG3, every Fromsoft game, every Nintendo game, and every gacha game
>>716410762Sciel has nothing to hide and Lune is the most rational and least likely to be influenced by emotions, but yeah it could have been handled better
>>716410762Like others have said, Sciel cannot be hurt by the mask, because she does not put a filter between her inner self and what she presents to others.
As for Sirene, she used different kinds of hypnosis on the party. The first one at the beginning affected everyone except Monoco, the second one before the fight affected everyone but Verso, we can assume the type of hypnosis she used last was less effective on Lune.
>>716406019>>716406702>>716418006>complaining that easy mode is too hardwtf is this shit?
>>716422357not him but I just figured it was because that axon played with emotions and lune mentions how she uses her emotions to push on; so that was her basically burning through the emotional manipulation and still focusing on her goal.
