It is pretty shit. I don't have a problem with killing the ostensible MC for shock value, lots of games have done that. What infuriates me about the game is the lack of direction. You had a reasonably interesting set-up - a team of people sent to kill God get wiped out early but the survivors regroup and begin a slow journey to explore and level up so they stand a chance. Verso is so OBVIOUSLY sus that once he's heading the party, you don't know what "you" are doing in the game any more apart from waiting to find out what the mystery bait has been leading to.

story definitely was worse off with gustave leaving. the verso swerve was cool cause you find out that theres more to the world than lumiere and it was actually lumiere and all its citizens that are unnatural to the painting. then act 3 happened and didnt really know what all the twists are actually for so we end on an even bigger twist so that the audience and clap their hands and feet together at the deep commentary. its a good game. the story's delivery is better than its structure and thats what carries it.

I don't know if it counts as interesting, but as soon as I saw all of the "plus 100% crit rate when last one standing", "plus 20 billion damage when last one standing" etc talents I tried stacking them all and bringing only one character to the fight. Exactly as expected, it trivialised the entire game.
I used free aim shots as my only attack for most of it, anything else was just a waste of AP since damage was capped at 9999. You don't even need to parry with this "playstyle" outside of one or two bosses just before the damage uncap, all the enemies die before getting a turn.

There's an entire plot point in Act 2 where the crew wants to split with Verso because holding a funeral is more important than progressing. Verso earns their trust by showing them where he buried his own expedition. Maelle does what she does at Reacher because of Gustav, and in particular because of her conversation with Verso in Act 3 about Gustav.

I noticed that too. The game's "story mode" is on par with any other game's normal mode - it is not an "easy mode" at all. I always start a new game in easy/story to get a quick feel of the mechanics and see if I am going to like it before restarting on hard mode. I feel that a lot of people seem to miss that the bigger picture of the story talks all about growing up and accepting that things have to end, and how children must in turn be free. Young Verso doesn't know that he's dead but he gets closer to death the more the canvas is torn apart by everything that shouldn't be there, old Verso struggles to reconcile his nature as a painted person with his wish to save Aline and it's only at the end that the two are able to finally understand being at peace.

I'll admit what this game did very well was capture "in the moment" aspects of the game. Anyone with any critical thinking skills, however, will realize upon finishing the game and sitting on it for a week that ultimately this game offered nothing satisfying in terms of a conclusion or what you accomplished in said game.

It's not just about Aline and Verso at this point, because those gods created more life inside the painting, which young Verso states as "equal to the outside".

The game also builds up the fight vs Renoir and then you realize the Renoir you hated was just another fake shit, leading to a fight that really doesnt feel like the end of anything, you just beat another Paintress/Aline painting

Yeah, the "story mode" in this game is mislabeled. Either intentionally or unintentionally. It's actually more like a normal mode, if not a bit tougher actually.
For most people "story mode" aka easy mode is what they expect when they just want to chill through the game and enjoy the story without having to sweat and farm for hours to get to level.
I actually use easy mode now and them. I play a lot of souls-like and nioh-like games. I don't want every game I play to be a sweatfest of difficulty, sometime I just want to breeze through and enjoy a relaxed time.
This game lies to you when it uses the label "story mode." It is not.

As for Sirene, she used different kinds of hypnosis on the party. The first one at the beginning affected everyone except Monoco, the second one before the fight affected everyone but Verso, we can assume the type of hypnosis she used last was less effective on Lune.
