The main flaw of every animal crossing game (especially the recent entires) was how lacking the socialization mechanic was. 7 lines for "chat" and a half dozen fetch quests and that's it. New Horizon should've expanded on villager interactions by giving you more options to hang out with other villagers, like maybe organizing group fishing with them or whatever. But no, all we got was more furniture and more ways to customize your island.

The main appeal of animal crossing is "living in a small rural community" and not "glorified simcity"

If anyone ever gets a chance to give Nintendo feedback about the games, encouraging more advanced and in-depth villager interactions and dialogues would be great.

Anyone who can read can tell when there's just a quick hot selection of generic dialogue, vs characters having more advanced ways to reply, or custom replies for each villager.
Since the value of the game is in the comfy vibe and the little tasks you do while enjoying that vibe, adding even just a little bit more meat to the villager personalities will add plenty of value to the game itself.

Having a (monogamous) dating system in AC, then looking at statistical data about who the players hooked up with the most and the least would be hilarious

So the game lets you make designs, but now you can make individual frames to create animated designs.

To be frank Pocket Camp already has the fundamentals laid out. The helper feature, albeit somewhat makes it like you hired a lackey, is a perfect place to be further expanded. Instead of helping you doing chores, just make it so your helper is your best friend that can interact with, go to places with. Imagine seeing sunset with your favorite villager on the peak of the hill while holding hands.
