Everyone has to compete with everyone instead of small companies finding a foothold on things like the Switch or the PS5 and building their brand from there. We literally saw the benefit the Switch 1's empty eShop brought to so many indie devs and small time devs. Everyone has to deal with thousands of games being released on Steam instead of maybe 50-100 on consoles. Sequel was a mediocre flop that's only remembered for GIANT ENEMY CRAB and poisoned the well for samurai action games for years. Folklore? Pseudo-sequel on the PSP sold literally 3000 copies. Isn't this exactly what happened with Media Molecule and Dreams? Yoshida said that they had these big plans to make it into a sort of recruitment tool for talent but they all pretty much fell apart when the game underperformed out of the gate. All the people at Sony on the publishing side who greenlit it and were involved with it in the early stages had either left or been demoted by the time it came out and their replacements didn't care about it so plans for a native PS5 release and then a PC port were killed.

Reminder that concord was greenlit like 5 years ago when the video game market is totally different. The idea of video games flopping was unthinkable, there was always gonna be an audience buying the games no matter what. Concord was the first time a game made $0 instead of recouping costs at base minimum.
