Valve is officially working on Steam Deck 2, and it will be as good as PS6.
It's over for nintendotroons.

I've been thinking of getting an 'eck, I don't need one but I like the idea of playing my games on a handheld in my couch.
Should I just wait for prices to drop or for other models to release? I can get a good condition 256 LCD deck for 300โ‚ฌ but I'm not sure if it's worth it.

In that power profile? We're probably 7-10 away from a 20+ tflop system at 25 watts or less. Valve value better life so they probably want 15 watts or less.

PS5 level though? That might be possible, UDNA does sound impressive. And it'll probably support FSR4.5/5 so that should help too pushing for better than PS5 performance.

PS6 will draw between 150 and 250 watts. Steam Deck 2 even if they decide to sacrifice some battery probably won't go above 25 watts.

This is like a 10 times difference in power draw, also the Deck version will likely have significantly less compute units.

I'm still not really sure why I would want a "new more powerful steam deck". I haven't seen any new games that are simultaneously good and also don't run on my launch day LCDeck.
It's almost like those are mutually inclusive properties.

The OG Deck models are fine enough but they have a few problems that the OLED decks fixed:
>Fatal design flaw with the battery that literally bricks your Deck if you leave it at 0% charge for more than a month
>Battery life is pretty ass, even though the HW-info page says that you can get 2-8 hours out of it you'll get around 3 hours for 90% of vidya, 1:30 at worst and about 6ish hours for extremely lightweight stuff like basic PSX/GBA/NDS emulation at best
>Wifi is fairly weak, my laptop is fine even when I'm at the edge of my garden but my deck has connection issues unless I stay inside my house and even then it loses speed fairly easily
>The fan is a diceroll, you might get one that is "loud" but not annoying or get one that sounds like a cat in heat when you start pushing it
>Color accuracy is middling, it's not bad enough to be noticeable but if your used to darker blacks then it might drive you crazy

If you think you'll be gayman enough in bed or on the couch to justify the 499 cost then I'd say the OLED deck is worth the money and then some.

>Crossplay doesn't require Sony
for Portal 2 the only option for pc and console crossplay was Sony because Valve and Sony worked together at the time and you could connect your PSN account to steam because of this.
>Also Sony games don't sell very well on PC.
they sell well enough and thats still more sales to offset insane huge budgets, Sony obviously wants to invest more into PC because thats a huge market now, so working with Valve on the steamdeck 2 to have an idea of specs will make things easier for them when porting.
It's just the reality of the industry, xbox is already publishing their games on other platforms the exclusive as we knew it is basically dead outside of Nintendo.

Deck is $400 at least and I don't want anything more than streaming. It's also 1280x800p while G Cloud is 1080p.
The sole advantage it offers would be playing games on the go and on the few occasions I would, I wouldn't want to be lugging around anything the size of a Deck or Cloud. I'd bring an actual pocketable handheld like a Retroid or Trumui brick and play through a bunch of retro games and hacks I haven't gotten around to.

Extremely unlikely, the rumors are probably mixing up Valve's new steambox specs with the Deck 2's.
It will still shit all over the S2 and consoles in general, but there's no chance they're cramming in PS6 tier hardware into a Deck. The thing needs to be affordable and feasible.

Unless the screen size is significantly bigger, that's a big battery drain for tiny benefit. I hope valve doesn't fall into that dumb nintendo trap.

this is a genuine retard opinion, not because streaming is bad per se
but because you can achieve this exact thing for about $20 by just getting a telescopic controller for your phone like picrel
i use this on my S24 Ultra to both stream shit via Steam Link and emulate
so my advice to >>716477785 you would be to test this first and see how you like it and then get the Eck if you do

uh oh retard detected
opinion rejected
lets go over what having a higher res screen does
>the screen itself requires more power, meaning less battery
>higher res screen means more powerful hardware required to run games at smoother framerates on higher resolution
>you are essentially future-gimping the device because newer games will require more powerful hardware, meaning it will be harder to run newer games at native resolution in the future because of the higher res screen
all this while you gain very little to almost nothing by having a higher res screen
its not smart to do so in any capacity
you can easily connect the eck to external monitor if you wanna game in higher res

Sony is making a handheld, the ps6 will probably be both a home console and an optional second handheld device that can play ps6 games which means their aims for their next console are directly in line with the deck 2. If they both want custom silicon from AMD then it makes sense to work together, Sony is already working with AMD to develop FSR which valve with then make heavy use of.

Valve clearly were waiting for the Switch 2 to be released, so they could up the hardware so they could emulate Switch and Switch 2 games properly this time around
It's no secret Valve advertised the Deck on the fact you could illegally play nintendo games on their device
This is basically endorsing piracy of Nintendos property on Valves part

Deck released 5 years after Switch.
We don't even know what hardware S2 emulation will require, but you can be sure 3060 is gonna be the minimum and that's for a desktop device so closer to a 3070 on a mobile device.
Using laptops for reference, a steam deck 2 would cost at the very least $1000 if you made such a device right now.
Maybe Valve can make a good deal with AMD but they also can't sell their hardware at a loss.

>>716487062
the argument is bullshit, but if it was true they would never admit to it, so this counterargument is also meaningless.

I see it as more of an extra toy for people with expensive rigs and as a tool for helping console gamers ease into the PC gaming environment. As much shit as it gets for being "hard to use", Deck is a lot closer to a console experience than a laptop would be.

I take a wild guess and say it's especially because of the chinese market. It's difficult to get in the door there because you want to be that western good goy company, but when some chinese politicians doesn't like it cockblocks your whole division.
Not just games, but community features and monitoring, moderation have to be built around whatever Riceman says.

Somehow Steam is doing really well there.

Valve and especially the deck aren't big enough to justify custom chips, I'm pretty sure the deck 1 was just leftover shit that Microsoft commissioned for their surface tablets and then abandoned. Sony would provide the necessary scale to justify building a custom solution. The real question I have is why the fuck Sony would work with valve, what benefit would they get from helping the thing that is killing consoles.
