To me, TLOGYA is the epitome of what MTM is as an album.
A calm after the storm of Meteora. A solemn but hopeful breath of "starting anew" and moving on.

Bleed it Out definitely captures the angst of this phase well, and is very necessary to the album as a whole, but it doesn't epitomize the album like TLOGYA does.
TLOGYA also serves as the closing track, and a transitional piece to lead into A thousand Suns, which is the ultimate capstone of Linkin Park.

More bands need to have tracks where it's just music and no vocals.

We used to have high test nu-metal, post-grunge, skate-punk and alt metal but it got killed by low test indie "rock", screamo metalcore and emo pop punk shit. I think the strokes were the beginning of the end. A bunch of Jew York nepo babies larping as a lower middle class garage band. If something should have replaced the late 90s and early 2000s nu-metal and adjacent genres it should have been stoner rock. QOTSA mogged all the gay indie and emo shit and should have been more influential.

I'd actually recommend early NIN to a lot of anons in this thread, from The Downward Spiral to The Fragile, Linkin Park more or less were ripping off what NIN was doing years before them but streamlined it.

i would say the overwhelming rule in general is a band peaks somewhere in their first 3 or 4 albums. there is no 100% catch all rule that applies to every band. i think a lot of bands i liked honestly peaked with their first or second and then the 3rd and fourth were lacking some of the energy and by the 5th and 6th it was just sad. its not just LP some bands are weird and actually peak with album 4 or so.

there was another band called linkinpark and the guys looked pretty similar so it causes a lot of confusion. they made a different genre of music though so its easy to know which one is which. also the guys in the other linkin park are all old so you can tell visually as well.

People said that about Godsmack back then but it didn't sound, feel or look that way compared to previous or other bands at the time. To me, it was like a branch of metal ushering that new type of rock/metal heading into the mid-00s that lead to bands like Hell Yeah, Rev Theory, or Five Finger Death Punch later on. It had a bit more hard rock alt feel to it. I always viewed the start as that in-between WWF-WWE era of music, post 00s and 9/11, where it was a bit more emphasis on the machismo aesthetics. I still liked a few songs but I never really put all those bands together like that.

I think it has to have a bit of a bounce or groove to the music while being heavy and angsty. They can also be quite experimental with a lot of different sounds. Generally as a result of new tech and instruments at the time.

love these fucking songs. i have strong associations with these. kind of a funny shitpost but i had my first gf when i found these, because i liked the songs i listened to them on repeat and unfortunately associate them loosely with her. (not a bad person or anything but sort of chaotic) we broke up and a handful of years later she finds me online when im in a relationship with someone else. she meets me and one thing leads to another and we rekindle an old flame. i spend the night with her. she tries to convince me to up and leave my entire life to come live with her in another state. includes leaving college. i tell her i cant because i dont want to leave my family and need more time to break up with my gf. somwhow my ex tells her friend and she tells my gf and all hell breaks loose.


sometimes i do wonder what it would have been like at a much younger age going and living somewhere else. i have no hope the relationship would have turned out well but i feel like the experience in another state would have been a good growing experience even if it was temporary and only lasted a year. oh well.

I just see them as symbolic of the 2010s to early 2020s decade because of how ubiquitous trailer music was. It was the same way that numetal was in the early 2000s where they'd randomly shove it into a game like Prince of Persia. My favorite thing was halo 2 where the soundtrack was literally 2 CDs - one with the game music, one with all these weird modern band tie-ins. And then youd' be progressing along in the covenant ship, then for some reason an atrium would have Breaking Benjamin BLOW ME AWAY kick in and it's not even a tough fight or anything special you'd just be pic related.

Puddle of Mudd and Blurry in AC5 is another but I give that one leeway because I liked its application.
