>>716488278>https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/eu-age-verificationThe current age verification app is a prototype only used in a pilot phase in a few member states of the EU and its use is voluntary. It also is actually not privacy-preserving in accordance to the EU's own guidelines as given in:
https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/library/commission-publishes-guidelines-protection-minors
https://ec.europa.eu/newsroom/dae/redirection/document/118226
as this prototype app is not based on zero-knowledge proofs or other privacy-preserving aspects the guidelines require. It instead stores 30 pre-created tokens locally on-device which the app can hand out to requesters in randomized order to try and mitigate re-identification. Attacks have already been formulated on this mitigation which proves it's about as effective as a wet blanket and can be defeated easily with a few large parties coordinating and cooperating with one another, turning these tokens into trackable profile identifiers.
There is no actual porn ban *YET* - moreover, as per article 28.3 of the DSA platforms cannot be obliged to use means that collect additional personal data to perform age verification. Which means until the EU actually makes their verification technology work CORRECTLY, based on actual zero-knowledge proof, there CAN'T be. Because no other means of age verification can be free of processing additional personal data. Any online identifier that allows for reidentification is qualified by the GDPR as personal data. Which means the current tokens are themselves, personal data.
