Diary is only good if you know you're going to be extracting near the distractor frequently enough to not use something better like /v/mote. It lets Yatta safely walk through Looey while he's tardwraggling the entire floor, for example.
If you're not using it for this purpose, it's functionally entirely useless. 90% of the trinkets in this game suffer from being dogshit, it's quite incredible.

It's a lost art nowadays because some "people" don't want to "disrespect" either setting by doing something everyone knows they have nothing to do with each other and comes off as tryhard, like what happend with Flashgitz' animation with a Black Templar killing Bluey and her family because the templar thought it was a furry demon and it actually managed to piss of the aussies enough that Flashgitz had to change it to a parody version of Bluey instead of the normal blue one.

Gimmicks
The first kind, you'll want to buy Machine Manual or Wrench from the shop and get the trinkets for 100% research on Twisted Boxten, then the two "meta" ones which come from T. Rodger and T. Shelly.
The second kind, you'll want Speedy Shoes from shop, then either Pink Bow from T.Poppy or the plush from T. Toodles. Some toons work better with very specific niche trinkets, but the ones I mentioned are universal
