It leans much more into the soul inspiration given when it was coming out at the time. The 7 Deadly Sins are the most in your face souls-like inspiration the game has outside of the original gameplay it launched with.
But the updated gameplay/control scheme they added later helped improve the growing pains of 3's gameplay.
Not much they could do to fix the story, which will either be a you enjoy it or dislike it thing. Really depends how much you can vibe with what they're trying to do with Fury's story which seems to be the real make or break thing for people

3 drank too much dark souls juice and so it had mooks that do too much damage and incredibly lethal platforming but Fury moves with a bunch of flips and pirouettes so accurate positioning is impossible. Allegedly they unfucked some of that in later patches but it wouldn't salvage the level design being fairly shit.

Genesis fucking rules but it's a twin-stick shooter that's balanced around co-op, though doing it solo and just switching between War and Strife plays decently well. It really needed some sort of transition attack between them because it's way too sluggish, but other than that the actual game has some neat areas and a caked-up demon lady if that's your flavor.

2 and 3 are great for entirely different reasons and I could recommend one or the other to certain people depending on their tastes. 3 on Ravager difficulty is one of my favorite Souls clones while Darksiders 2 is one of the best Diablo/Zelda/Warrior Within clones you can get your hands on.

It's hard for me to rate Genesis objectively because it's a great 2 player co-op game and you don't need to know anything about the series to enjoy it (it's also my first entry because it was co-op)

1 is objectively dogshit and I can name a ton of reasons, whether it's the pisspoor combat which is stupid easy, the really bad items (the horn), the bad level design (no room for the horse and the fact that the game world isn't as cleverly designed as Darksiders 3 by leading back into shortcuts or even has a decent fast travel system like 2). It's also the shortest game with the most filler (the shitty fucking sword pieces and the mask, kek) The only thing saving 1 from being one of the worst games I ever played was the puzzles, but 2 and 3 are full of them so you don't need to play 1 and you can just get by by watching it's cutscenes on YouTube.

The biggest and funniest cope I've seen from fans of 1 is that "the series is all bad!"... yeah no. Just the first one.

Funny im like the one guy, that has been for what feels like a year now, wanting a zelda replacement that isnt as shit and timewasting as Zelda, with actual puzzle design that understands puzzle development. Lets just say Darksiders 2 was NOT that. And I didnt bother wirh dark siders 1 because of how bad 2 was. Lets hope. Somehow. Someway. I think 4 co-op is a bad idea. Sounds unbalanceable as hell. I do love the idea that all 4 of them are in the game, but I think the puzzle design will suffer a lot if the game is designed to allow for 4 players doing it together. They had a myriad of problems behind the scenes and in the final product that are completely disconnected from anything to do with co-op, many of which are just continuing worsening trends from their predecessors. It's been a thing since video games existed. Video games were founded on multiplayer. Arcades always found some way to include 2P, quickly branching into co-op the minute they figured out how to add it, and then going on to multi-cabinet from there. Console releases always tried to find some way to add in any form of "co-op" or multiplayer they could, even if it was something as simple as the SNES Final Fantasy games allowing players to assign characters to individual controllers to make choices together. The console pack-in for the Atari 2600 was the multiplayer game Combat. Games like 1993's Doom made networked co-op and deathmatch core features of the game. Designing explicitly for online for fighting games can be seen as far back as the fucking Genesis thanks to games like Weaponlord. It goes on and on.

This whole sentiment of "oo wah multiplayer, ew gross get it out" only started with the release of big live service multiplayer-only games, and people using that as justification to decry any form of multiplayer are casuals that deserve to fuck off out of the entire hobby.

What's the deal with that? are going back in the Genesis direction again? i didn't mind that game but the strengths of the series is the first two games. 3 was just the early days of when we were getting the first dark souls clones, and because of appealing to popularity it somewhat lost it's identity in between that. Darksiders at it's core was actually a 'zelda-like' and in that sense it represented something like Twighlight Princess game design structure mixed with the combat of the OG God of War games. If you've played TP then you'll notice the similarities. A lot of people on here hate Zelda Twilight Princess, which is the reason Darksiders is only popular with a few people.

Seriously, her character doesn't change for 98% of the game and changes completely only at the very end - I'd believe it way more if devs bothered to change her personality bit by bit after each Sin fight, but nope, it's a non-linear game so writer can't do that. Autistic War had more personality than her, and I'm not even talking about Death or Strife who ooze personality with their dialogues.

Am I going insane? This feels like basically the exact opposite of what I experienced. Fury's character arc is the best part of DS3 precisely because she starts out as a complete cunt and is an awful, awful person at the beginning, but naturally over the course of the game she's forced to confront her issues and overcomes them, getting better over time until at the end she accepts her role as guardian of humanity and it's totally well-earned.

You're not going insane, it's just that Fury's arc in Darksiders 3 is the big make it or break it point for people.
It's either something you like and understand the angle they're coming from when trying to write it, or find it contrived and don't like the angle they're trying to take the direction of her story with.

Both takes are reasonable depending on which angle you come at the game from and leave it.
Personally I fall into the camp where I like what they did with Fury, but I can fully understand why it rubs people the wrong way

She never shuts up about her horse (which is a huge cop-out anyway - devs had small budget so they couldn't add horse exploration like in DS2, thus they make fancy HORSE TRAILER prior to DS3's release only to fucking kill it early into the game as excuse - War and Death never had issues with their phantom horses dying from attacks, hell, War PUNCHED Ruin a lot until it came to its senses), she acts like a bitch towards everyone (Watcher, not!Strife, Makers, Sins, Lord of the Hollow, even Council) and her personality doesn't change (it's like consequences of Lust fight hit her only during Pride fight) because, again, the game is non-linear for the most part and thus you can't really show the potential progress in her personality change because of that.
If I wanted to be a faggot and bash her for non-plot stuff then I'd mention how her true form sucks in terms of gameplay compared to War's or even Death's - 2-3 enemy hits are enough to get kicked out + you're very slow during it + it takes forever to charge and why bother with it when Hollow stuff is just better. But I don't really need to mention that when her plot-related stuff is way, way worse.

I distinctly remember both the second Wrath and the Lust fight having moments where Fury grows as a person (the first Wrath fight is part of the early game with her still being a vicious cunt). The second Wrath fight even reinforces this with gameplay, with him being invincible while he has warriors feeding him anger and only becoming beatable when it's just him and Fury and she calms down.

Airship was making this Early Access MMO, Wayfinder, but a lot of shit happened, their publisher closed down, Airship bought back the rights, redeveloped the game into single-player w/ optional 3-player coop, minus all the gay monetization and cash shop.
