I'd say the first biome is pretty shitty all things considered. The exploration is fine but every area kind of blends together and makes it hard to keep track of where to go and where you've been. It feels very generic too. Then you have the frost area with frostbite fucking you constantly and long ass run backs with slow elevators happening one after the other.
Unintuitive gameplay elements and quest system that's incredibly easy to ruin without a guide. My whole first playthrough I never used temperance once.The performance issues don't help either. Started out as 1/10 for me but after 60-70 hours personally it's an 8/10. The lack of weapons is pretty disappointing.

As far as I understood it, the Taoist succeeds in a loop and does supercede causality for a moment, this is how he exists simultaneously as a boss and as a person. This is why there are jars even in the "first" playable loop - it's not the first loop, and even the boatman says as much when you talk to him, referring to earlier loops.

However, Wuchang also kills him every time, so he falls short of succeeding fully. He's in a state of almost-god in a very limited setting.

So, what usually happens is that Wuchang does her shit but gets betrayed. The Taoist then achieves almost-god status and loops back, but is killed by the Wuchang of the next loop, in which the Taoist of that loop becomes almost-god and so on.

Yeah, I'm never really sure if a game is actually bad or not because people are so quick to review bomb things and feel entitled to playing stuff or having things cater specifically to their personal taste. Is the performance actually bad in a particular game, or are they just trying to go above their weight class? Are the games actually janky and unbalanced, or do the people reviewing the games just not understand the mechanics? Are they being hated because they're actually bad, or because it's currently cool to hate it? Impossible to tell honestly.

You can't parry her hand to hand at all. You can try stunlocking her with dual blades clash spam and just hope she doesn't randomly drop her weapons and kick you for 90% of your hp. It comes so fast and her outfit has so many tassels it's hard to sometimes figure out what she's doing. The choppy framerate doesn't help either.

You should focus more on 1 weapon for now. You really don't get much points to bother speccing into 2. If you go with longsword, you can deflect her weapon attacks but you gotta dodge her punches, kicks, and magic attacks.

Aerial bulwark is a hold parry that can deflect both melee and ranged attacks and it also damages the attacker if hit by the spear. It also restores skyborn might afaik.

Longsword's deflect is a traditional parry but also serves as a weak block.

Each weapon has their usage but right now the meta end game builds are longswords because they have the best damage per speed/reach ratio. Personally I prefer dual blades though since I find the gameplay more proactive and faster.

These characters basically never refer to themselves or each other by name, so it's never cemented in your head. I did the worst at classes that completely rely on memorization. I'm in college now and had to take a few classes for my prerequisites over the last year. Sociology and communications classes were the worst. Chemistry and A&P were the easiest and my favorites because there was actually a lot of calculating and drawing diagrams in chemistry and with A&P, there were multiple dissections that I was doing at home and really taking my time (spent 10 hours disassembling a fetal pig one day) while referring to anatomical diagrams.

If you respec into Spearveil you'll have an on command version of that (which I'm 75% sure also converts stacks if you land it perfectly with a feather).

Biding Time is the passive feather regen skill on 1h, Alacrity is the name for the magic dodge type with the charms floating around you that your red spear spell uses. Basically I was saying that you're only using the base mechanics of the game.

I guess it kinda helps that I'm usually looking up a guide to just finish these npc quests so looking for the npcs while reading the guides basically just makes the names stick.
I probably won't remember their names in a couple months or so after I'm no longer playing the game, but currently I have their names clear on my head because I associate them with their quests and npc interactions rather than their characters or personality. i.e. you have to talk to Feng Yao FIRST then He Youzai in chapter 4 if you want to get the items required for the Ring of Samsara. Stuff like these is how I get to remember the names.

The amount of times I got taken out at full health in this game as a boss was almost dead… While it’s not the hardest soulslike, it often feels like one of the most unfair ones. A lot of bosses almost came down to “never get hit” when I finally did beat them. I usually had more than 10+ healing items left when beating the bosses in the latter half. It almost makes vitality and healing items feel pointless. I wish you could get that charm that increases your damage when you remove all your armor at the beginning of the game. I would have equipped it and never removed it.

I swear these bosses have attack patterns that are specifically designed to make you dodge only to have the follow-up catch your dodge. You cannot dodge fast enough in this game, there's too much recovery in-between. I seriously do not understand how you're supposed to fight half these bosses. The tracking is also insance and all the attacks are circular swings that track you while you're moving. The bosses in this really are a chore that keep me from the great exploration.

This game actually hurts to play, it completely sapped my energy for being so dogshit.

It's easy but I stopped playing after making it to the Cloudspire zombie totem shrine. This was after finding lots of areas mindnumbingly boring to run through with endless forks and debuffs/traps shoved down my throat paired with the slow movement speed in these large maps. The devs' biggest crutch though (besides forcing debuffs or mines placed in combat zones), is relying on placing enemies behind corners or debris even when it doesn't make sense. Imagine those grunts in Zhenwu Temple making it their life mission to "guard" some random fucking corner every single day.

Everyone praising this game for its level design ("DS1 like" lmao) needs to walk around with hot stones in their shoes. My friend got you wherever chapter 3 is and apparently some forest is so much worse. I've never been so whelmed and disappointed by a game till now.
