Nor should it have limited self heals and a downed mechanic.
It definitely shouldn't take away mechanics that were part of the past two games like welding doors.

While I also don't like the art direction of KF3, I could have got past that if the game still played like a Killing Floor game. Unfortunately, everything mechanically about KF3 just screams "this isn't Killing Floor" to me.

it's improved in several ways. You unlock skills faster, there's more skills to unlock, and the resource system means there's cross-progression across the different perks

The grind is shorter than KF1 for leveling perks. I don't remember how long it took for KF2 but i got them all to 25.
