it's poorly explained in-game because it's the first time they introduce you to the concept of getting 'ideas' from other facility employees. that boiling bot on the Forgemaster's counter was supposed to be your hint. you need to cook a piece of metal scrap and a piece of silver scrap (from the train portal) in a pot of water like soup and bring the Solder this produces to the Forgemaster to purchase the fiber optic cables.

I really dont know what I was thinking back then but when I first heard a rumor that you could romance Tali in the upcoming ME2 I redid an ME1 playthrough where I saved him and did not fuck Liara out of fear that somehow a pote tial romance in 1 would ruin my chances. By the time 3 rolled around and I was using that same shepherd I was so pissed abput keeping this faggot around that I purposly shot him in the citadel even thou I had the stats to spare him.

pro-tip for something that seems like a bug that will get fixed:

if you have your vehicle storage tool unsheathed/drawn when you dismount your trike, you can mash left click to instantly store it basically as you're getting off of it without the annoying GCD or exposure to enemy fire
