I mean, it certainly helps when you have predictable ground, but as long as you aren't trying to fight in a jagged area, you can usually manage just fine. The worst bosses to fight are usually just Eater of Worlds/Brain, after that most areas have a naturally open place to move to or the fight is facilitated by the area. Like Plantera, people love to empty out a large section of jungle, but you are meant to slowly move through the jungle fighting it and then once it transforms, you are meant to take it to a larger area, which the Jungle has plenty of and you can just circle it.

It's just too much for an average play through. People complain about vanillas bloat but Calamity unless you ignore all vanilla and side content just takes forever, and not in a quality gameplay way. Terraria is my favorite video game with over 3000 hours played, only one boss needs an arena and that’s Plantera. If you struggle at any point in the game then maybe explore the thousands of items available to you at any point during progression? It's not like you need to go balls-to-the-wall with arena building.
Most bosses just need
>A decently open space, ideally fairly flat so you don't get snagged or stuck somewhere
>Some number of platforms (wooden or otherwise) so you have vertical mobility
>Torches if it's underground
A lot of the time, it's just locating a good spot and doing a minimum of building. Like the crimsom biomes where you fight Brain of Cthulhu, you want to just get a few rows of wooden platforms ready, and to board off some areas so you don't get hassled by other enemies during the fight.

The arena building becomes more necessary in the later game, where bosses start moving real fast and you need lots of running and wing-flight space, but at that stage you can have an overground general purpose arena for summoning a boss or raid event.
There's stuff you can add to give yourself an advantage, but aren't as necessary if you're good, and know how to properly manage a stock of buff potions.

I don't think it's an unreasonable amount of prep, the worst part is when Hard Mode does forced spawns for the mechanical bosses and you DON'T have something ready ahead of time, like actual good armor or weapons.

Oh yeah it addresses finite spawns of crafting materials for highly desireable accessories, like the Terraspark Boots.

What happened after 1.4 that caused them to "balance" a lot of shit, I liked the availability of progression skips and overpowered weapons for certain bosses, they made it much more easier for new players if they were stuck at a certain point. It's not a competitive game so I don't see the point.

I love how actually building shit is completely arbitrary in Minecraft with only a very few exceptions while Terraira encourages you to build houses for NPCs and arenas for bosses.

for the wall of flesh if you can do enough damage you can kill it in the outer third where there's no houses in the way, so you can just use a potion to walk on the lava. you might still have to do a little terrain clearing but it's also doable without if you have good mobility and don't get bad world gen that blocks the whole tunnel or something.

I feel like having hardmode spawn alongside the map instead of overwriting everything would solve a lot of the game's design problems.
Imagine if, whenever you beat WoF, the game would randomly choose between East and West, like it does in the goblin invasion event, for the map to expand horizontally to be twice it's original width.
Then, only the new expanded region would have hardmode's ores and biomes and enemies.
Think about it.

Corruption was the only "evil biome" for a couple of years, so the initial players are used to it a lot more.

Expert/Revengeance is the intended difficulty of calamity. Expert/Eternity is the intended difficulty of fargos. Putting them together I would assume the intended difficulty is Expert/Eternity/Revengeance. Unless a mod was made, the fargos compatibility mod with calamity does not work with infernum and you will have problems when you switch to infernum difficulty.

Yeah that seems to be what I figured. The fargos dlc mod says it's incompatible with infernum but then goes to have this section and it indeed has these compatibility options in the mod.
I didn't really install infernum for the difficulty mode however since it seems to add other stuff as well so I think it should be fine if I just keep it on Eternity+Revengeance in the difficulty toggler. If I notice anything funky it's probably infernum that's getting kicked off the modlist however since the rest seem to all be working fine so far in the hour i've played now.

I liked the idea of a 2D minecraft. However the map is limited by the oceans and lava. The craft system is really fucking stupid and can max out quickly. What really pissed me off is I couldn't construct wires or a wire cutter, I have to find either preexisting ones or buy them from the engineer lady in the bottom of a dungeon for some reason. I suppose the game is better with mods, but the time demand is not worth it for PC for me.

iirc you couldn't get another copy of the fish if you had one in your inventory/bank, but you could just drop the fish next to you and then get another one. I just did this the whole time and fish questing was easy as fuck because 90% of the time I already had the fish in a nearby chest.

Using the raw terrain might be difficult with early game mobility, since there'd be plenty of spaces to get stuck or snagged and lose all your speed.

Skeletron used to be an actual pain in the ass, but we're talking about the earliest versions of Terraria where the maximum resolution was 640x480.
It can still be tough in expert mode, but the bee gun does a good job.
Skeletron really is a DPS check, you gotta make sure you defeat it before sunrise or it goes into insta-kill mode (like the dungeon guardian). This also means don't go summoning Skeletron at like 3am.
