How they're made is basically you get preset shaped like sphere, cube, cylinder, and then apply them to a body part (head, body, elbows and knnes), and there's xyz scale values and other modifiers. There is a polygon limit so you have to optimize, but it's surprising how much you can do.

Question for those who are playing: is there still near-black darkness around the areas before they're fully developed? In some of the few screenshots I've seen of the current test, it didn't look like there was that same darkness anymore, but I guess even the non-developed areas get lighter as you approach full completion?

Akchually you CAN make a copyrighted character in a game like this as it is a form of free expression and you are essentially creating fan art. However, in the case of Minecraft or Roblox, once you start selling those costumes that you made then you start entering legal problems. It's sort of a land reclamation MMO where you spawn in a dark quadrent of a planet and light it up by detonating boxes. The higher you break them, the bigger an area you reclaim.
The terrain and features are blocks not unlike Minecraft but it feels more dynamic. You can merge and move stuff relatively freely.
Movement is smooth with wall running and swinging using an elastic tail. Also vehicles.
You can 3d model player skins in the game too.
