>New Shinobi game made by western studio, originally made in Japan
>New Ninja Gaiden made by western studio, originally made in Japan
>New Metroid game made by western studio, originally made in Japan

Has the opposite ever happened? Has Japan ever made a new entry in a franchise that originated in the west?

Wizardry.

Wizardry is not only exclusively made by Japan now but they even bought the entire IP because it was so dead in the west

I know it's originally Japanese, but the modern conception of donkey kong comes from Rareware, a British studio.

You forgot Streets of Rage 4...
And they're all bad in comparison to their japanese originals.

I can't think of any modern remakes/sequels to western games made by japs.... but i do know that a lot of games in the 8/16 bit days got released in the west first, and then in Japan later on with changes. Battletoads was made easier for its Famicom release for eg.

Nintendo had heavy involvement in the design of the Country series. To say it was just Rare is narrow-sighted.

are there interviews demonstrating that nintendo had a lot of control on the game design level for dkc? i would assume they had more of a managerial role, they visit, they say it looks good, they leave. what did they veto, if anything, from what rare did?

What Japanese studio could even make a good Ninja Gaiden sequel? Name one that makes good platformers other than Inti (and even then their best ones aren't anything like NG).
Anonymous No.717144742 [Report] >>717144890
For whatever reason, particular Japanese games have bigger followings in the west, and at a certain point they just tell people "we don't really know what you want, so make your own sequel".

More like Japanese just fall on their face and fail so white men have to bail them out. Then when franchise is saved the nips are like okay we take it back now and inevitably fuck it up again

don't forget samurai pizza cats. the game seems to be chock-full of homages and the animated portion of the trailer looks fantastic, being animated traditionally. and they even got almost all the english and jp VAs several decades later, which is impressive. they even made a playful jab at the english title ("I'll explain. abroad the series is known as samurai pizza cats"). not sure about gameplay

Cyber Shadow is excellent. Very much in the "Westerner who grew up playing Japanese games and then made one" subgenre of indie games, though.

Not so, Weeb-sama. I prefer the NES games to Ragebound, but Ragebound is still a great game. Art of Vengeance is shaping up to be a gem too, and I'm about as big a Shinobi fan as exists.

I'm a little disappointed with Dread but I'd hardly call it bad either. It's still good, even compared to previous games.

I tried to play that 3 times and gave up a couple stages in. It's just... tepid. For a ninja game it feels very slow and enemy placement was annoying rather than challenging.

I didn't care for it much either. Of the retro indie ninja action game subgenre I think Moonrider is my favorite, questionable motorcycle sections notwithstanding.

It feels slow because they made the mistake of drip-feeding abilities. You get the dash attack quite late. Of course, being an indie game, they'll never make a sequel where they make it even better.

There are way more japanese-developed licensed games created from western properties than vice versa. In fact I'd like to hear a western-developed game that was licensed from a japanese property.

And that's not the only Atari/Midway example. Konami developed a Japan-exclusive version of Rampart for the Famicom that adds a lot of new content beyond the main arcade game.
