I'm enjoying my quest 3 with pcvr and virtual desktop.

VD is fucking awesome. It connects to your pc desktop (if using Windows), and you remotely control your pc and see it through the headset.

I usually set up a window or screen for games and move the window freely in the space environment in VD (so I can play games laying down and looking up). I.e. picrel

You can also see browse the web or see the videos on your pc through VD, and VD has some cool built-in effects you can toggle (dome, sphere, cube). Watching anime cubed around you is pretty cool

Or you can use the other environments and throw yourself in a virtual theater and see your desktop on the big screen in front of you.

It didnt fail it's still niche and its infancy.

I use superdepth3d and as long as the hook to grab the depth buffer is working for the game it generates a very good 3D image for flat games.

VR hardware and software development is so expensive that in order for it to make any financial sense it has to essentially replace every other form of gaming
Unfortunately VR is not suitable for most genres, or a lot of gamers due to accessibility issue or even most homes due to space requirements.
It's forever doomed to be an unprofitable niche that's only serving as a stepping stone for future AR development which will be a big thing in like a decade.

Steam Link resolution is horribly bad, like I'm not even joking when saying that VD's is 2-3x higher.
Also it's a much better experience when manipulating your desktop.

Developers fell for the metaverse meme in the most critical moment and pivoted to make lame VR environments for normalfags instead of making fun VR video games.

The most fun I've had in a game in YEARS was a VR rail-shooter.
I'd spent the past years relegating my VR headset as a JAV fapping machine when it was actually great for gaming.

Like fuck, there's already barely any games then you find out the key-games like RE are exclusive to Meta or fucking PSVR

The best use of VR is to pretend that you have multiple flat displays. There are only so many realistic FPS games with manual reloading that you can play before you've seen it all.
