As a person that has had both, Laptops are better when you are away from home and have many hours to kill. Laptops are worse than the deck if you are away from home but only have an hour and some minutes.

Steam Deck is always the better, safer choice over a laptop as the laptop requires too much commitment, space and setup. Plus it draws more attention to you which is always a bad thing when niggers are around. People are always on their phone so having something similar doesn't draw too much attention.

So why did nobody want Nintendo's home consoles, but their handhelds have always done well? "PC gamers" is something in the billions now. It's not a matter of trying to appeal to some niche. And even just using it around the house is extremely convenient. The attempt at arguing like portability is some niche pointless feature that nobody cares about is one of the dumbest ones levied at the deck, especially when it's done by nintendo fanboys while portability is the only thing keeping nintendo's hardware alive.

This will all change with the Steam Deck 2 since that's rumored to be getting the console-level launch meaning heavy marketing, sells in retail stores, global launch. Steam Deck 2 will be made to make the PC handheld mainstream while also having compatibility with the Steam Controller 2, and Deckard.

>bought a steam deck
>upgraded to steam deck oled
>oled broke for no reason (steam button permantly active, even when disconnected from mobo), trying to fix it made it worse
>went back to lcd deck
>so much worse to the point I bought a second oled
anyway how do I image my old deck to my new deck? I had a lot of non-steam games on it and don't want to re-create the wine prefixes

Set up syncthing on both devices and then set the prefix location to be synchronized.

Nah. Gaming laptops are pretty heavy to travel with and has poor battery performance when using unplugged. Also you will need a desk at very least to use it comfortably. Deck is much better for portable gaming and traveling. I'm going to visit my parents later this month for couple weeks and I literally don't want to take my Legion 5 Pro with me. Not only it's 2.5kg without a charger I won't even be able to play some games during my ~7-8 hour travel. I considering getting a deck just for this. In lightweight games it can go for 5+ hours.

funny how the same people who dismissed the switch portability as a pro, had to backpedal hard to shill the deck

Simply price? Deck. The highest level is $650 (get the mid level and an SD card) compared to the Rog Ally X. I paid like $850 months ago for the Z1 Extreme 2 TB model. I could have paid less but oh well.
But some games play better on Rog than on Deck and vice versa.

I have both and you're retarded.
My gaming laptop has a shitty ips panel so I have to hook it up to an external display to get good visuals. Add kb+m and congrats you now have a scuffed desktop.
The cpu/gpu always hit temp limit and the fans are very loud when maxed. Whereas I can just play the steam oled like a normal handheld in my bed.

If recording and exporting videos and pictures was easier for non-steam games, I would be playing on my Deck more than 4070 super PC. I like recording what I play and making webms but it gets kind of annoying doing it on the Deck all the time
