>>717176856 >Leo is long range but slow >Raph is short range and normal >Mikey is short range and fast >Donny is long range and fast
It's that fucking stick
Always felt weird how monster respawn could give you super strong shit in early areas, nearly like a bug.I really wish i could read the game development bible
>>717176365 (OP)
I appreciate this game at least attempted something different from the constant beat em ups that would follow and have trapped the turtles to this day
>>717176475 >it sold well
Yeah no shit it was a TMNT... VIDEO GAME
Were you perhaps confused as to how big both of those things were in the late 80s and early 90s?
>>717176365 (OP)
le maymay level that nobody could beat
I beat it at 9 years old when a friend lent me in 4th grade and my mom rarely let me play nintendo
Any game dev or someone with insight want to explain the archaic technology back then and why you're able to walk over that hole? Other games of the time also did similar things. What's the deal with that? Bad collision coding or practices or lack of technology for it at the time?
>>717183272
I remember how upset I was when my dad, who had promised to rent this game for me, came home from work empty handed since they were out of copies.
Now I can literally play any shit I want from my cheapass smartphone instantly.
I cant even imagine what I would have said to this as an 11 year old
>>717181751
I don't think the meme was ever that it was impossible, just that it was stressful. There's some weird jank going on with the underwater controls and hitboxes and the music gets really intense as time starts running out.
>>717176475
The Turtles games did so well that the Castlevania producer was shamed for CV3 underperforming next to them and he got demoted to working one of their arcades.
>>717181739
I had the episode where Michelangelo and Shredder swap personalities via hypnosis on VHS when I was a kid. I do drugs now.
>>717181751
I'll never understand the issue with this level. Once you figured out what the hit boxes were, it was simple. And I figured this out when I was 6
>>717177056
Funny you say that because whenever my older sister and cousins would play NES Legend of Zelda, I always saw the fairies as pizza slices. For whatever reason, food items = health were already incorporated into my mind, but I don't think it was this game. Or maybe it was, I don't really remember.
>>717181579
He's been nerfed in every version since the original comic. The reason Rafael meets Casey Jones is because Splinter sent him away after he tried bludgeoning Mikey from behind because Mikey kicked his ass in practice.
>>717183935
That's retarded if true. CV3 is the better game so the first TMNT game performed based on it's name. Makes more sense to demote the creator of Simon's Quest for setting 3 up for failure.
>>717176365 (OP) >after falling through 4 times decide to just walk over it >jump again anyway
being a retarded kid set every game on a nightmare difficulty
>>717176665 >Ok, so can you tell me more about the foot clan for the article? >Ah yessu, deya leeda iss OROKU SAKI, maaaasta NINJA. And! eeeeenemy of deya fada, SPRINTA >....groovy. that's lunch I'm outta here.
>>717181751
I would lways go for 4 and then 3. It just felt right that way for me. Also swim through some of those lasers to sacrifice health for some time.
>>717186490
Isn't that basically what happened in 2003 since most of it was based directly on Mirage?
Hell, in that show and 2012 they make it clear he's got the potential to be the best but doesn't apply himself enough >>717176365 (OP)
Love that the Cowabunga Collection even referenced this.
>>717193132
Later on I do think he became the butt of the joke a bit too much but early in the show he's pretty much alright. They just kind of leaned in on him being the innocent one too much in that show (which worked since they made it more apparent he's the youngest) but he can come across a bit too stupid at times. This is all memory based though, I'm overdue for a rewatch and plan on doing one before the end of the year

Yeah. So the idea I got from the original comic is instead that Raphael is the seconds best at fighting because it's important to him to be good at it. While Michelangelo fights because it's fun to him, like an extreme sport. Like with the nunchucks. If you'd expect to get good enough for those to be viable compared to the other weapons, you'd kinda have to mess around with them ALL THE TIME.
So if I was to make TMNT thing, every scene with Mikey in it would have the constant background-sound of restless nunchuckery (maybe only broken for dramatic effect at some point or something).
>>717194115
I usually think of Raphael as being the best if he had his temper in check, like how he lost to Mikey in the Battle Nexus in 2003, Donatello's potential being held back by him being too logically minded, and Leonardo being held back because despite putting the most work in to improving he can sometimes lack empathy
>>717176475 >sold unprecedented numbers at the time
It was a TMNT video game released when the series was at the height of its popularity. Of course it was going to sell well.
>>717192765
It's exactly what it looks like and the shit they pulled out of there was used for exactly what you think and no one talks about it for the exact reasons that you already know. The memes for this were incredible and will probably be illegal to posses in a few years. Israel going on about the Hamas tunnels at the same time got soul-satisfyingly good replies on Twitter.
>>717194646
I also rank Leonardo lower (3rd) fighting-wise because his training has to be spread thinner than the others as the leader, and Donatello at (4th) as he doesn't have the drive for fighting that of the others have.
Making it so leo and don make up the brainier half and raph and mikey is the musclier half (which I definitely didn't get the impression of in the 2012 series)
>>717197303
Turbo Tunnel did filter me as a kid, I got pretty far but my reflexes weren't there yet.
Tried again at 16, used a lot of trial and error and got to the point where I could beat it pretty easily. Then it turns out there is another, even harder Turbo Tunnel on level 8.
>>717181751
I could beat it as a kid but the vines that drag you under also gave me fucking nightmares and a mistrust for deep water where I can't see the bottom :(
>>717176475 >despite it's reputation
It's a good game, the difficulty was fairly standard for the time, having four playable characters was a big deal back then.
Only people who diss on these games are retards who watched too much AVGN without understanding he is venting and throwing friendly jabs at his beloved childhood game.
>>717209468
it's more that it was an action-adventure with no save or password or level skips. every time you lost or just had to shut off the NES, you would have to start over from the beginning. it was the same problem that games like blaster master had. you would understand this if you didn't play with save states in an emulator.
also as an 80s kid and original cartoon fan everyone understood how jank this game was, that's not a retro thing. this came out 6 months after mega man 2 and only a few months before the arcade game that everyone loved.
>>717176536
I still have this guy plus the tractor in a storage bin somewhere. Lost both of the hands on him. Kinda wild what Playmates was pushing out while the brand was losing attention to Power Rangers.
