For reference almost all COs have extremely different designs in the japanese version of AW1
Most of the designs are the same from AW2 onwards except for Olaf who wears his western outfit but still has white hair, Grit who always wears a cowboy hat and Sonja who always has glasses and wears a red outfit
Also interesting, AW1 and 2 were actually released in North America first BEFORE the Japanese versions which were both cancelled and later released after a few years, so technically the NA designs were what everybody got first

Translators/"localizers" and their companies circumvent this with the necessity of translstion work requiring context and desicion making but take advantage of it to churn out something seemingly more pallettable. This is the point where we as the consumers use our intuiton and compare the raws with originals to make a judgement call on their good faith efforts.
As I alluded to, sometimes a "localizer" could be doing the job exactly as they are paid to do, and its the localization company that wants messages to be bent in order for it to appeal to foreign markets, but changing the sexual/romantic/platonic feelings of a relationship is just as, if not more impactful than calling onigiri doughnuts because you don't trust another culture to be able to handle something they hsven't seen before.

It would be fine if it was deterministic. It's not. You can make the same moves and sometimes the AI will decide to act differently. And all of this is very hard to manipulate. Reset and reload doesn't seem to change the RNG. It seems like the RNG is determined when the map starts.
Anyway, because the AI can react in different ways, it's a fucking pain to plan a perfect strategy to get 999 score in Advanced Campaign. It's the reason I stopped playing yhe game seriously.
