Aside from /v/ ridiculing it as being a 'gimmick'. I don't think it is really them to blame, it's the lack of investment from triple A. Valve tried getting this whole thing off the ground, but everyone else got lazy. We don't have any real talent being pushed into this industry is the problem. We're currently at the point of time where the risk of VR development is not appealing to those who sit in investor meeting board rooms, and i believe there is a lack of talented people still working in the industry that would have pushed this where it needed to be.

VR games really need to invest into games where you're not walking/running. The entire input method is based around immersive gameplay, and you're not getting that unless you have a huge room that can accommodate it, one of those expensive slipping treadmills that force you to walk around like you have a fucking stick in your ass, or you just drop it entirely and move/teleport with the joystick.

If you want to convince more people to get VR headsets or XR glasses you should try to tell them about how they can play their regular games in perfect 3D. You can do this with software like Geo-11, Vorpx, UEVR & VRTO3D. No haptic feedback. Try load a weapon in mid air and rack it to load it. It feels like shit. Stab an enemy that isn't there, feels like shit. Try to load shells into a weapon while it tries to calibrate where your hand is to the weapon and have it not be smooth. Shit sucks. Custom gun controllers might help but good luck in convincing me to wear a rig to let me switch out my pistol and shotgun cause fuck you I'm not. Yeah Compound is awesome. I play it a lot. I wish we had more singleplayer retro fps that is designed with maps though. But it being roguelite in regards to randomized floors actually gives it a lot of replay ability. The guns feel satisfying and that's hard to translate over in vr especially when you want it to feel like a retro shooter.

What worked in 2016/17, with Onward pioneering it, was binding movement vector to the offhand (usually left hand) controllers orientation. Also, movement acceleration (like in CS) causes a lot of motion sickness. I still get motion sick from it after 9 years of using VR.

I've been in and out of it. Tried Vive then Quest 3 but the headsets still felt too cumbersome. Big Screen Beyond 2 looks kind of enticing but there's no fucking way for me to justify the cost combined with lighthouses and controllers. Valve isn't even bothering to make lighthouses anymore which sounds damning even though htc still makes some apparently. Might just wait to see if there's anything worthwhile in Deckard

Have you tried increasing resolution/framerate? While I can't say I've ever got nauseous (although I experienced some light vertigo while playing a flying sim) I get uncomfortable if I play PCVR with lower than 90fps and I got a headache once while playing some older native Quest game that had very low resolution.

Personally I have no plans to upgrade yet due to not being that interested in VR at this point, if I was using it on a daily basis and had spare cash laying around I would consider it. The Valve thing is worth waiting for if you plan to purchase a premium VR headset, imo. Just don't expect it to cost anything close to Quest 3.

not at all, it was actually pretty comfy, I think the sickness has to do something with having your entire surroundings move rapidly while you're moving in game, meanwhile in VTOL the cockpit doesn't move around so it's fine

You might've been looking at wrong graph though or your system couldn't handle the game properly since the lowest refresh rate you can go for Quest Link is 72. If you ever decide to give PCVR another go - try increasing max refresh rate in Meta app and see if you feel better.

Not really a vr game, but I wish that they would make a competitive RTS or shooter where you had to continually pedal a bike to generate some sort of resource in game, such that it added an additional element of exhaustion to the game like real sports. Also I know that I'm more fit than most good players so it would help me shit on them

Quest 3 with controllers retails for $499 though, you have to buy a cable separately, unless you have a good wi-fi router, I'll give you that

Its because its not actually VR its a regular game with extra steps. Just because I swing my controller like a sword doesn't make it feel like a sword. There is no weight or texture to anything. I'm just as aware im using a controller in a VR game as I am a standard one, moreso because I have this huge thing on my face, so I dont see the draw.
