First of all - since when is 1k for a gaming PC a lot? Second - I have 10th gen i5 and a 3060ti, quiet a cheap build, and I am able to comfortably play PCVR games.

I think it would be cool to include characters from both, as a nod to both the original and reskin.
Could even do things with it, have the PDP and mario worlds cross over with a story that involves both, and have a co-op multiplayer mode that has two humans battling out two different cpus, with the final battle with bowser and cordellia teaming up against the players.
